Just remembered I got a couple of photos when I was playing there on Sunday (bit of fitness training).

Not bad views for a muni in the heart of the capital!

The green in the background above Sam Torrance's bunnet is the 8th.

Here's the 17th green, up on the ridge on the left. Crackin' wee par three, with the 16th green down below.

We were chilled to the bone and getting blown off our feet but the views are always worth it. Greens were a bit ropey on Sunday but they're usually good and I think it's the best Council course I know of up this way. Highly recommended.

Nice pictures John. Give it another couple of months and the greens will be perfect. There was still snow on the course a month ago. Probably more due today actually :D It's certainly a straight hitters course if you want to score well.

It's got to be the best value £20 you'll pay for a quality course, only £24 at weekends. It's home to several fairly high standard local competitions every year. The Dispatch Trophy being one of the big team events. It certainly has a fair bit of kudos about winning it ;)

In another month, the gorse will be in full bloom, the grass will be nice and green and the greens will have speeded up a fair bit. All the elements of a classic traditional golf course

Former Open winners, James Braid, golfer and prolific course designer, and Tommy Armour, "The Silver Scot", both played out of a club that played over this course. If it was good enough for them....

Maybe a venue for a wee late season Forum Outing ?

I thought it looked like Lothianburn from the pics - its built up a mountain too isn't it?
I see on google maps Braid Hills is called Harrison Golf Club - is that a private golf club that uses Braid Hills public course or is there more than one course there?

I played out of a club at the Braids, called Harrison GC. It was one of the finest clubs I have ever been a member of. The members were the most friendly I have ever met, like a large extended family.
My only claim to golfing fame, when a member there, was representing the club in a two man team in a regional qualifyer and winning. This took us down to play at the Belfrey and we had a knock on Wilmslow GC on the way home.
Wilmslow was to host the next televised comp so it was interesting to sit later and watch where I SHOULD have hit my ball to!
Our prize for winning the qualifier was a large crystal golf ball, slightly smaller than a football and this was donated to the club as a trophy to be played for each year.

A super course and club - happy memories.

It's undulating Birdieman ! You start fairly well up and play along the spine of a hill.

There are three clubs, I think, that are based there. Not that long ago there were two courses, Braids No1 & Braids No2. Imaginatively named I know. No2 was done away with and a new beginners/easier course created at the East end of the Braids. This is The Princes Course. 9 Hole and ideal for a quick blast round or for beginners or youngsters to hone their skills on.

As murph stated, some fantastic views from the Braids on a nice day.

In another month, the gorse will be in full bloom, the grass will be nice and green and the greens will have speeded up a fair bit.

I know it's a bit rough given the weather up there today/tonight - but the gorse is already in full bloom here in Dorset!
