In old German (Anglo Saxon) it means a stream or spring, as in Winterbourne, a stream that's flows in the winter.

No! Of course not!

But (in effect) calling it the 'River Stream/River River/Stream River' is a bit in the daft side. I've actually seen a '3 times' (cf River Bourne/Bourne River being a '2 times') version, but can't remember exactly how it went.

I can understand how it may have come about though - some local, ages ago, when asked what the bit of water flowing across some land was could simply have replied 'That's the bourne', so the name stuck! Repeat for the many 'Bournes' in England.
 
There are lots of those type of examples such as River Avon
 
River Maun runs theough Mansfield. Which in the olden days( pre prem league) was calked Maunsfield.

Agreed, but they are normally 10 degrees colder.

Oh completely. I remember going on holiday to Devon and being gobsmacked that they had palm trees there. Only a plastic palm tree could last up here 🤣

A friend of my wife's moved to Southampton. She reckons it is around 8-10C warmer there than the NE. I think she is about right on the whole.

We have great beaches up here but you wouldn't want to be lying on them many times during a year. Good walking beaches I call them 😄

Without looking it up I think Bourne is derived from a germanic word meaning stream.

I am looking at buying a flat near the ferry. Got a few to view next Saturday. Make a nice holiday flat. I love walking on Studland.

Just had a drive through from Boscombe to Wareham. Wareham is gorgeous. Thought Studland looked very very nice. Cannot believe i have never perused both places. But now i will one day. Seen Harrys pad. Not bad for a second holiday home i suppose. 😖
