Well you know how it is, I had read GM Dec front to back and back to front and concurred I needed something golf related to read whilst pushing the shopping trolley around Sainsbury's, so ended up with Today's Golfer.

I don't often buy other mags but I was tempted to subscribe to TG as you get a dozen TM TP balls and a beanie hat :o!!! but after reading it and seeing some of the articles and instructions (only a trained pro could understand and manage) I thought it was rather gash compared to GM, the rating for kit just a top ten, mainly Ping G10 stuff and the usual TM kit, it doesn't allow value, feel and general performance for average golfers, whereas GM test the gear and you get a better picture. I know they have a special area once a month but they rated the Cobra DB-08 bag in the top ten of bags (which I found to be a totally useless bag) and not a single Ogio bag in the top 10 :D!! The other annoyance was the article on Michelle Wie, it was totally out of date and something that was talked about months ago also not to forget a massive article with Poulter on his new clothes range that only a size 32" waist and 6'2" player could wear grrrrr :p

What are you thoughts on other mags?

Not keen on most of the others.

Maybe I need to check out Poulters stuff, as 32" waist and 6 ft 2 is me. Trouble is, I don't want to look a prat.

Occasionally buy TG, as I like to have a few golf mags on the coffee table when my Dad comes round, and he already gets Golf World (which is ok).

Don't read Golf Punk as it is rubbish.

GM is obviously streets ahead of the rest.

I get Fairway to green and national club golfer from my GC. These aren't great either, but sometimes have a good interview or review of unusual kit worth reading.

Also considered the TP ball deal in TG, but couldn't do it. Should really subscribe to GM as I buy it every month anyway, maybe need to drop a few hints for xmas.

Subscribed to TG for the ball offer and DVD recently.

It's no GM but it's a decent read and if I only read 1 golf mag a month I'd go nuts from boredom.

GP is like Loaded for golfers not my bag at all but if you are young I can see it's appeal.

Only time I read any others is when they are in the shops at airports.

I buy GM every month but they haven't done a subscription offer to tempt me yet!

Golf world is great and I subscribe to it, buy GM most months and also waiting for a good membership offer.

I like Golf World too. They have decent articles and it takes a while to read the mag cover to cover.

GM is good and on a par or better than GW

Todays Golfer has really gone downhill. it used to be a decent read but I can't remember the last time they interviewed a pro, I can always find errors in their equipment tests (driver X is more accurate than driver Y but driver Y's dispersion figures are better than driver X's?), sloppy journalism - getting facts wrong. And quite frankly, who cares how good Jasper Carrott, Lee Dixon and Clive Woodward are?

Golf Punk - well its already been said...............

TG was the 1st mag I bought, got it a couple of months and chose that one because of the free gifts but found I was reading it within a day or two.

Tried GM and not looked back since.

I actually subscribe to TG and think its ok. To be fair I only subscribed as:-

A) Its something to read when the good lady is watching soaps

&

B) The deal of TaylorMade balls and Leadbetter DVD with 10% off i.e. £36 with 12 mags was a no brainer really.

I subscribe to both GM and TG ( and a few other non golf related mags) - all courtesy of Tesco points! Brilliant!

Even better - I get a large amount of these Tesco points by filling up my car with fuel for work use and my employer foots the bill! Free magazine bonanza !

I quite like Golf World as it is a substantial read although it does feature travel to far flung destinations and reports on courses I can never play. They do have some good articles and their equipment and instruction articles aren't too bad. It just doesn't have the reader involvement of our fav mag.

I think Todays Golfer has finally cottoned onto what we have known for ages that it pays to involve the readers. It is a shame they are all based in Peterborough or surrounding area which just happens to be where the mag is. I'm also not hugely impressed by its favouritism of all things TM. An okay read but not something I'd subscribe too.

Well tax is something I understand rather than golf which is baffling, confusing, exhilarating & continually absorbing.

Lessons from the pro make it understandable for about 30 minutes & then on the course it all goes west but I keep coming back for more!!

It is a bit lazy that they only talk to readers within about 30 miles of head office and even then they only ask about their own kit (and who is going to own up that the kit in their bag is rubbish). Mind you, their web site and forum is awful so they do not have access to the same wonderful resource that GM do. I have been reading TG on and off for the last year or so and it has started repeating itself already. It is as if they have 12 editions and just update them a bit every year. Still, GM does not last me a whole month so need something to fill the gap.

Have been a subscriber to GM before and will be signing up again shortly.

I was looking at ther waterproofs in TG this morning, not a single Stuburt peice of kit, though its a Brit company, good value and a good brand, yet they have stupid priced kit like £400+ set of Galvin Greens that the average golfer wouldnt need or pay for when a £200+ set would do the job just as good with the exception of not sounding like a Ninja on the course.

I would pay extra for more pages in GM, I find it indepth, honest and a really good read (with the exception of the travel pages) it is streets ahead of anyother mag on the market (though I have only read GW a couple of times).

Interesting post, Chubb old thing, given The Management's recent request for ideas for next year's GM!

The only other mag that I really enjoy is Golf International which has a distinctly 'column' based approach. It also has exceptional instructional articles in my view (for those that are interested in those). November's were a case in point - no long descriptions of weaving a club between canes and head covers while standing on a draught excluder, but excellent sequences (front and side-on) of Paul McGinley's and others' swings. A picture is worth a thousand words I believe, and much easier to follow.

Much enjoy the monthly read of GM, still...
