We had our club championship on Saturday and after 36 holes of stroke play me and one of my playing partners were tied on 140 gross. In the event of a tie we have a 4 hole play off. I'd played well all day so was reasonably confident. So I step onto the 1st tee and proceed to shank one half way up the right handside rough. Managed to scrape a bogey for a half. We then parred the 2nd to remain tied. So feeling I'd dodged a bullet stepped onto the 3rd tee and shanked one into a water hazard on the 2nd hole. Ended up with a 7 to his 3 and the fat lady was signing. He parred the 4th and I had a bogey. I cant decide what was worse the feeling of disappointment or the embarrassment.

Great effort over the 36 holes, shame you didnt win the play off but dont beat yourself up too hard, you must have played some good golf to get there

Cheers Fundy,

It was actually quite exciting in the 2nd round as I had a 4 shot lead after the 1st round and he started like a train in the 2nd round and was level after 4 holes. After 9 I was 1 ahead and after 17 he was 1 ahead. I had to birdie the last to tie.

You should definitely be looking on the bright side. Great golf to get that far. It's hard though, but still a great achievment.

I STILL lie awake at night thinking about the County champs 14 odd years ago when i was 4 up with 4 to play against a Scotland International and lost at the first extra, with only one bogey in the last 4 holes!

Cheers for the replies guys. You're all right, I'll definately try to learn from it. Although I thought that when I lost it in a playoff 2 years ago too :)

Sponge the more you get in that position the better you will deal with it. Sounds like you have a lot of positives from the day especially with making birdie at the last. It's all experience and we actually learn more form the downs than the ups. So keep on going.
