on monday i went out on my own at my new club and played ok. Broke 100 for first time, hit 96 and only lost 2 balls, which for me is great. Went round again on wednesday and could not hit my 4 wood straight at all, my driver is in the naughty corner so i had not taken it. As a bonus i was topping many, many shots with the 4 wood. I tried not to let it get to me so switched to my 3 hybrid for the longer tee shots. This also soon deteriorated into a total chaos and soon i was not on speaking terms with any of my clubs! This shambles ended on the 16th hole when i reached for yet another ball and found I had used the lot! 12 balls! on not quiet a full round! i swear at least one disappeared into thin air, i cannot have hit it more than a foot into a patch of rough but when i looked, nothing! Anyway rant over and its good to get it of my chest, not getting your stress out is a killer so i hear :)
Cheers
Pete

How long have you been playing Pete?

If it's not long this is what you have to get used to, even when you get better the nightmare rounds still come out of nowhere to crush your spirit!! :)

had an awful day yesterday but played really well today at a course ive never played before. only blanked two holes and they were par 3's. wrong club choice as i wasnt sure on the yardage. one was only 100 yards down a massive drop. landed a yard or two short of perfect and into a bunker. couldnt get it up and out and to stop in time. blankety blank!

When you consider the world number 1 took 15 more strokes than the best round at Wentworth, you start to see how variability is just something that comes with this game.

McIlroy, at his best, could probably match that 64 from James Morrison (presumably not the singer). As you admit, your best round ever was your 96. Now if McIlroy can play 15 shots below his best, just imagine how far you can fall. Shrug it off as one of those things that happens and just remember that no matter what, when you went looking for another ball in your bag on the 16th you wanted to find one. Despite everything, you wanted to play more golf. That's what'll keep you coming back.

Hi, I have been playing since the end of last october Region3 so not long really and in that time played about half a dozen full rounds. Played a fair few times at 9 hole courses.

Thanks for the encouragement Ian. After i had to pack up i did go straight to the range to try and see if i could work out what was going wrong. I think i had the ball too far forward at address and had a slightly too strong grip. Just tiny adjustments make a far bigger difference than i would have thought.
