Books - what are you reading just now?

What the Night Brings, the latest Mark Billingham book, Tom Thorne series. Excellent read, as all of his books are. No drop off in quality.
I'd forgotten about this, I read the first in the series, Sleepy Head I think it was, ages ago and enjoyed it but never followed with the rest of the series.

Next on my reading list now, thanks LT. (y)

I'm going to give this a read, I'm 5 books into the Sam Pope series and it's getting a bit samey.

I've started a new series by Stuart McBride. Cold Granite, not surprisingly with that title, set in Aberdeen. 100 pages in and very solid so far.

There is quite a few in this series so I'm hoping it stays decent.

Just finished "Precipice" by Robert Harris.
Cabinet machinations between Asquith, Churchill, Lloyd George, Kitchener et al in build up and entry into WWII.
Kitchener on the abysmal shortage of shells when thousands of men were being slaughtered "It's not the men. I can always get more of them but we need more shells". 😠
It's not a "page turner" but I'd recommend it as a slow read.
It focuses deeply on Asquith's letter's to Venetia Stanley, 35 years his junior, with whom he was besotted and carelessly revealed highly confidential War secrets.
What fascinated me was that they wrote several times a day and received each other's letters within hours - three deliveries a day!
Anyway, finished it and I'm bombing through a Jack Reacher (that I've probably read years ago) 😅
