Had one for a round last year as it was too cheap to turn down.

Never again - unless it comes with a driver who's willing to lag behind while I walk. Useful for drinks, smokes and carrying clubs but you loose your thinking and planning time.

Don't get me wrong, they're great fun to drive but a complete pest on a golf course. A course made up of groups of walkers and drivers upsets the natural spacing. As soon as I see a buggy group I know within a couple of holes there's going to be a charge of the light brigade and the golf equivilant of the chopper scene from Apocolype Now will be upon us shortly.

(Maybe a burst of Mahler's 'Ride of the Valkeries' would give us a chance)

...usually driven by the same sort of gung-ho brainless pr@ts too.

Used one at Datai Bay Golf Club in Malaysia in January. It was compulsory but completed shafted my round for all the reasons others have mentioned.

Other disappointing thing was this was a spectacular course where a walk would have allowed you to take in the scenery and guage your next shot.

That said, HID who was out for the loop with me used it to amazing effect trying to run over the monkeys. Too much Grand Theft Auto for her me thinks :D

My mates won't ride with me. I have managed to drive one off the bridge going over a stream, crash into a wall and leave it facing downhill so that even with the brake on gravity took over.

Bearing in mind I was sober on each occasion and actually trying to drive properly its a bit scary!!

Agree with TonyN - no good for us playing off high numbers. One used one once - if there's two of you with high h/c you just keep ricocheting from one side of fairway to other. Takes forever and removes the fun of the walk. And as to the bug about driving one - got five of the b*ggers at work - one of which is a natty 8-seater stretch limo version. Had that Prince Philip chappie in the back once....
