Boat Of Garten

Lucky enough to re-visit "The Boat" last week. I played their about 3 years ago now and I remember it being nice. Nice is not the word for it, truely magnificent is nearer the truth.

Greens, scenery, fairways, absolutely fantastic, even the air tasted sweeter! What a truely awesome place with some even better holes situated in a majestic setting with the Cairngorms as the backdrop.

Also played at Kingussie which was extremely enjoyable, nice track again with super views. We also took in Spey Valley. Spey Valley was fun but boy am I glad we took buggies. I thought it was a great test of golf with some fantastic holes however in my opinion it still needs to mature and be given time to develop. Some great holes but also some really tough par 3's. This will become a top course in Scotland.

Spey Valley was the best course and the toughest but Boat is what golfs all about and Kingussie is also a lovely track. Would love to relocate to Speyside, lovely part of the world and some smashing golf courses at a fraction of the price of the Glasgow/Edinburgh fees. Also imagine its a better lifestyle.

Good call, thecraw
Used to know the area quite well when I was a student and had summer job near Aviemore. Boat of G now on my list of places to go.
(The older I get, the more time I'm thinking of spending in Scotland).

Craw, have been lucky ehough to play Boat twice this year, it is as you say what golf is all about, terrific track and fabulous setting and very reasonable green fees.
Lived in Aviemore for a while and despite it's detractors is a very good place to live especially if you like the outdoors.

Your a lucky begger, would love to move that way, golf, more golf, a wee bit more golf. Mountain biking, cycling, hill walking and fabulous views.

Where did you play your golf when you stayed there? Also have you played Spey Valley. I really enjoyed it however I think we would have been a 6 hour + round if we didnt take the buggies!!!

I didn't play golf at all when I stayed in Aviemore but did ski and mountain bike plenty, grew up at Grantown on Spey and started golf there at school and played a lot ages 15-18, nice course, short but picturesque. Never played Spey Valley, maybe give it a year or two to let it settle in, sounds pretty long, maybe too long - there is no roll on these inland highland courses so it's all carry I expect! :(
