Blue Mountain Update

No replies directly from the council AFAIK.

Basically the course is still closing April 25th when Crown will hand the keys back. Effectively this will be the end of BMGC as we know it although I believe there are plans to keep the course (and range) open a while longer albeit with no committee, club, etc.

Such a shame. I was talking with my PP's on Saturday about BMGC, and even if the council don't go forward with the plans, with Crown pulling out the course is sort of doomed. It'll only take a year or two for the course to lose members and become a 'bad course', and it will close and then the developers can snap it up at an even cheaper price!

I hope it doesn't go that way...

We are past the stage of losing members, the mens section has seen a massive drop in competition playing golfers over the past 12-18 mths. Down to less than 20 now on a regular basis.

Crown didn't pull out rather they were thrown out. They leased the property from the land owner and when the council wanted it for redevelopment the land owner gave Crown 12 mths to get out. The land already belongs to developers but it will change ownership to the LA.

I personally don't want to be around after April to see the gradual demise of the course. I have spent many happy days up there on/off since it opened back in 1992. I've seen the course mature nicely over the years and would prefer to remember the course how it was and intact.

Obscenely well manipulated by BFBC! That's the point at which I'd be inclined to use 2 words about spending money to play there - as I have done often! Site of one of my Holes-in-one too!

This document is in the public domain and circulated before Xmas. Not sure what it means exactly but guessed it was a tactic by the council to get things moving asap!

Where did you get your hole in one?

For those who might be interested, Bracknell Town Football Club are no longer moving to the new proposed site at Blue Mountain GC.

I doubt this will change anything dramatically but I think the Council wanted the land at BTFC (Larges lane) for some affordable homes in the town centre. It makes you laugh (and cry) that the council used the football club as another angle to get support for turning over the section 52 agreement. In turn giving them the right to redevelop Blue Mountain GC when it should have remained green belt for another 100yrs at least.

The club as we know it comes to an end April 25th but rumours are it will remain open under new management for perhaps another year.

Travelled from Oxford to play this with a mate a few weeks back and really enjoyed the game.

course seemed decent a no sign of it closing from my untrained eye!

Yes considering the time of year and the fact that the course never gets time to recover its holding up OK.

Crown are obligated to keep maintenance going right up to the last minute and they've done a really good job in difficult circumstances.

Glad you enjoyed it.
