Medal today... Had a steady front nine.. Was +10 at the turn. Then things went pear shape with a few doubles. Then found a strings of pars and lo and behold I was +17 and only our relatively easy P3 18th to play. All I had to do was play percentage and get a par or a bogie to stay under my par...

What do I do... Go for glory... Boom sliced my 7i OOB. Reloaded and then three putt as my putts short. Finally finished with a bloody triple. What would have been a cut was now one over... All because I let my ego get in the way...

Just curious, how is hitting a 7 iron into an easy par 3 green "going for glory"?
What was the alternative? A lay up?

Today off the back tees.. Was about 165y.. Had the option of easy 6 or crushing my 7i. Controlling the 6i would have been difficult as the green is narrow and running fast. Went for the aggressive option. Could have easily hit a easy 7 and then chipped or even putted from the fairway. But all those would not be macho..

Not quite sure it's my definition of going for glory hitting a 7 iron on a par 3 at 1 under h/cap.

Should have been a regulation shot, but with the opportunity to stay 2 under H/C, I tried a bit of a hero shot to get there with a hard 7i whereas easy 6i or a regular 7i layup would have worked. Also kinda rubbing it in for a 14 HC who was behind me till that hole. We ended up on the same gross score after this. :(

I don't see it a an ego thing, why would you not go for a par3 in one?

What I want to know is. How can you wildly slice a 7 iron?

Even I wud like to know (or rather forget). It started in line for about 50y and then decided it wanted to be closer to 17th rather than 18th. Went into knee high cabbage and it's final resting place.... RIP

Trying to hit any club so hard is always a recipe for disaster unless your a very good golfer.

Trust me ive tried it many times :D

if ya aint on both toes when you 'smash' it it ain't golf:whistle:

:swing:

True... was trying to get to 160ish with a 145y club... But to be honest it went about 160y - but unfortunately that was 50y straight and 110y right.. :sbox:
