Well I blew it today in my 2nd round singles matchplay knockout.
Playing against a 11 h/cap, mine being 13, I got off to a flying start and was 4 up after 4 holes but was cut back to all square at the turn.
I was back to 1 up on the 14th tee when I drove into the water, without thinking I played a provisional and when I got to the provi it dawned on me I should've dropped where the ball entered the water, I then would have been playing 3 to the green instead of a 4th shot with the provi, the hole was halved with me having a shot.
Athough I stayed 1 up it could have been 2 again with 4 to play, I missed a couple of short putts after this and finally lost on the 1st extra hole.

I have learned a valuable lesson that you don't always have to play a provisional off the tee all the time, and that even when 4 up it's not over when so many holes are left to play.

Lesson learned.

Tough luck and I guessing it was down to nerves and the pressure in the context of the match that made you take te provisional. A lesson learnt but at least you took your opponent to extra time. I played my 1st round last month and went 3 up and was only 1 up at the turn having gone out in +4 gross (and giving 8 shots in the match). I holed an 8 footer on 18 for a half and then won on the 20th when he drove OB and had a mare with his 2nd ball. It was a shot hole too so I was under a bit of pressure with my tee shot but got it away well.

Gutted for you mate, better luck next time eh ?

It could be worse, you could be in the Championship play-offs on the last day of the season, and then stuff it all up by losing to a sh1t team. Or imagine losing 6-0 to Preston, if only it was 5-0. :(

Seriously though, better luck next time mate.
