Well guys I went off to an inter-club friendly last night. Away at a local Marriot venue in Sprowston and it was 4bbb format.

Handicaps were me (4) and partner (16) , them 8 and 20. So far so good.

Then the raping took place and it was 4 hours of bite your tongue and take it like a man

5 down after 5 and I was one over par :( before it got worse , by the end we'd lost 8 down which has to be the worst beating i've ever had on the golf course. Gobsmacked we were.

The 8 h/c only went round in -3 gross (7 birdies I think) and when he finally had a bad hole his mate off 20 popped in a nice gross birdie too.

Now we all have good rounds and thats fine but this is the part that I took exception to. Afterwards in the bar this guy admitted that he hasnt played in any comps for ages because he was keeping his h/c high so that he could try and win the Trilby Tour event

I seriously had to bite my tongue as it was only a friendly but this guy is blatantly cheating and it left a sour taste in our mouths. My partner when we left was fuming and pertty disgusted by it all. its a good job i'm in a chilled out place at the moment because if it had been a few months ago I would hate to think of what i'd have done/said.

To cap it all off his mate came in and was bragging that he always shoots +7 these days off a 15 h/c and they were arguing over who was the bigger bandit.

REPORT THEM TO THEIR CLUB.

You may have no evidence but it will help their club sec/captain build up a case against them.
It might be worth an email to the Trilby Tour too.
There's no excuse for that nonesense and chilled or not, I would have given them a mouthfull if they had said that to me.

Wow.

Not only is it despicable, I don't know how these people can take any pleasure in winning like this??!!! Its not winning!

People like this should be reported and either instantly cut to the handicap they're playing to or (my recommendation) have their handicap cards revoked. Report them, chances are if they're bragging in the clubhouse this is well known.

ANGRY FACE. Seriously.

This kind of banditry = cheating. Simple. Report the lot of them!

Unfortunately, I don't think this type of thing is a rarity. I played in the Trilby Tour last year & was stunned by the number of t%^#s who came in with 42+ points off 3/4 h/c!!! It just is not probable that so many play so much better than their h/c in a comp format...do the math as the yanks say!

Yep, disgusting and worth reporting them. Can't believe that people want to win that badly.

How's Smiffy supposed to win the Trilby Tour if there's bandits like them around! ;)

Absolutely 100% agree, you were mugged off JD.

If they had even a scrap of dignity or respect to their opponents they would not have shot their mouths off in the bar afterwards and play down their game.

You must be on the Prozac because I would have been bubbling

they're only cheating themselves really. Pathetic.

Thats the biggest misunderstanding in golf!

One of them said that he was deliberately doing it to win the Trilby Tour. There are fantastic prizes to be won, worth bundles of money.

So how was he chaeting himself? Sorry NO he is cheating everyone else for his own personal gain

If he hasnt 'played in any comps in ages', wont his Handicap be inactive anyway ?
I mean, how much better can you get quickly to gain such an advantage ?

If its 'inactive', he cant play on Trilby Tour ?

Cheating BarStewards if you ask me, I'd have given them a right mouthful and walked out, AND report them to the H/Cap secretary at the Club.

Sh!t though it was, reporting them to the committee is getting you into a "your word against mine" area. No winners there (unless you complain by saying, "You have cheats in your club and therefore your club is known as a cheating club..." ;) ).

They are just tnucs, hustling faithful and honest golfers like you or I.

As Bob said it will build up a case against them, and if it is so blatant they have probably been reported before, and will be again.

Couple of points after all the replies (thanks fellas)

I have no idea if his h/c is inactive but I would suggest it isnt because he's entering the Trilby and wouldnt be allowed to otherwise.
In fact i've just checked howdidido and he has played a couple of qualifiers this year.

He also said he severely peed off one of the other good golfers last week who plays off 4. Apparently he was 6 up with 7 to play when the other chap said he'd had enough and it wasnt worth bothering to finish the game cos it wasnt a level playing field.

I dont want to get into reporting him to anyone as that just gets all bitter and twisted and will lead to stress , something i'm trying to avoid.

Lets just hope he plays rubbish and gets beat by bigger cheats than him ;)

The most disheartening post I think I have evr read on here :(

The actions of the guys you played against go against the whole ethos of this game we all love! And for them to effectively boast about their actions afterwards compounds their actions.

I am perfectly capable of going 8 or 10 strokes below my current handicap on a day when I get hot, more to do with only having played a couple of years and my handicap not having yet reached its natural level (which, incidentally puts into context the hopes and expectations of others to achieve scratch in a year! But that's another debate). The point is that when I do go low it a cause of embarrassment not pleasure I feel and I am doing everything I can to get my handicap as low as possible as quickly as possible.

I rather fear I may have seen the red mist in your position mate, well done for your restraint and self control.

I think the very least you should do is discuss with you match secretary, as even though it was a friendly no doubt they play in League matches too!

I'd imagine a quick email or letter would suffice, i.e. "I'd like to bring your attention something which occured..." and just give a brief outline, much like what you've done here. Don't think of it as being bitter or twisted, think of it as being preventative for the next unwitting golfer who'll come up against these two.

I may be wrong here and please correct me if i am wrong.
You say you are well capable of beating your current handicap by 8-10 shots because you have only been playing 2 years, and you are trying to get down as quick as possible.
I myself have only been playing 2 years and i have managed to get my handicap down quick enough,i have done this by entering qualifiers and putting all my cards in,thats how you get a proper handicap.
So what your saying is you are not entering enough comps to get yours down :D.
Surely that makes you no different to the bandit, unless of course i am wrong, but that is how i read your post.
Also it will only be a cause of embarrasment if you feel you are guilty of something.
