Just want to say how highly I recommend Lee from direct golf cambridge (lee_leggett). If anyone wants help with a club or any equipment he is your man.

Just wanted to give you all my view as I know a lot of stores and their staff get bashed for trying to push certain products. He is easily the best customer service I have received in a golf store.

Yeah like I said I just felt most people (not just on here) are very quick the have a moan but don't always tell the positives.

Really?

You are talking about the bone on the A14 near hemmingfird aren't you? I have been in their before, first time was looking at shoes and I found the lad serving me to be useless, as he was trying to get me to have a pair of shoes that I clearly stated I did not want, but kept going on about them as that is what he wears and thinks are the best shoes on the market. He even got a pair out for me to try even though I clearly did not want them, so I got up a spent £100 elsewhere on a pair of adizero.

The other time was when I purchased all the mizzy stuff in my bag. I asked if I could go on the range and try a few different irons out as I had no idea what I actually wanted. An older bloke asked what I currently used and my handicap and got told basically I am not good enough to play with blades. He then told me I would have to book in for a fitting, I only wanted to try some differnt irons to get a better idea of what I wanted. As you can see from all the mizzy kit I purchased from American Golf he lost a big order.

Did I say anything about the other staff? You do realise that most employees at golf stores are told to push certain products. All I'm saying is that Lee does not do this.

Having only been in there twice I do not know of everyone in there, but my only 2 dealings have not been that good. I'm not one of the types either that have it in for discount golf shops, as I use American Golf at Thorpe Wood and found them to be over the top helpful.

Fair enough, I'm the opposite as the one time I've been in that American Golf the service was shocking. The young lad seemed to have no interest in helping me pick a hybrid. He was more interested in hitting his driver when we went to the range to try a few. Also had no problem slagging off the course there which I think is a lovely little track.

I am sure that Lee is a nice bloke and looks after people well, but isn't that what we expect from a retail store? Stories where a purchase went well should be the norm, not noteworthy.

Every time there is a story about a bad purchase in AG, there are a few posts by people saying they were happy with their experience at AG. But that is beside the point. One bad experience outweighs a dozen good ones.

I got a train yesterday. It arrived on time and didn't derail. I must write to First Great Western and thank them.

You might like to PM your thanks!

He's a member here (lee_leggett), though hasn't been on since Sept/Oct.

Agreed. It's their job to be helpful and give the correct advice. It's like madadey stated his impression was poor and that's down to poor first impressions. Shops that want your business should be helpful and actually look like they care! Not difficult is it?

Of course it's expected to receive good customer service. But like you said people are very quick to have a go. All the thread was about was recommending one individual as I felt he went above what I expected. I think most will agree most golf superstores will push certain products and I have experienced that from other members of staff there. But now if I ever by a club I would only deal with him.

Didn't want to start any arguments.

no arguments Jon, it just that the 2 times I have been in there I have been less than impressed. Which one is lee by the way?

I think one of my playing partners has said that Lee was really helpful and even gave a few pointers when watching my mate swing, haven't dealt with him myself mind.

Same as Adey however, went to try some clubs Mizzy MP59's against AP2's and when I told the chap who turned out to be the store manager my handicap he said I should rethink as I wouldn't be able to hit them as I was off 20 at the time. Proved home wrong by smashing a load straight down the middle no problems.. Still tried to flog me John Letters though..

The real problem with only commenting when you have bad service is that people get skewed by the negativity. If you do a search and the only thing you see is negative comments then you just think that everything about the company/service is bad. Now fine if all customers experience the same service then it would be valid, but would you really say they every single customer/purchase in AG has the same experience of those that have had the bad ones? When, for example, AG have huge sales then the amount of poor customer service stories must be very very small, and yet some here seem to jump in with every opportunity to tell you about their experience from years ago, or when they refused to give away an item for less than cost price. It's all about honesty and balance of opinion.

Good post, I am in the licence trade business (among other things!) and we have a trip advisor page, people typically only take the time to review something when they have had a bad experience, for example a guy moans about a sub standard sunday lunch, but that doesnt take in the other 99 people that were happy, just didnt feel the need to review it online.

Online reviews should be taken with a pinch of salt, most "normal" people get good service and carry on with their day.
