When i play my own course i really do think every round i should get 3 birdies, this weekend i had five and could have had a couple more as i had two putts inside 6ft.However when i go to other courses maybe 1 or 2 is a realistic goalIs it the same when you play?and do you think its because you know your course inside out,or is there another reason?

Obviously the number of greens you hit in regulation is important here. I'l normally hit between 4 and 8 so if I get 1 or 2 birdies from that then I'm happy.
While birdies are nice I try to not make bogeys.

on paper i would expect to at least birdie all 3 of our par 5's cos i can easily reach so its hard to class them as birdies just long par 5's. With those aside I would maybe expect another 2 but a lot of the time it doesnt go to plan.

Sometimes its the amazing score saving pars i rate higher

Which course is this and what's the CSS? You seem to be scoring very well indeed, keep it up!

The course is vivary park in the centre of taunton, its relatively short and there are some holes that are give me birdies if you hit the fairways, css is 66.Even though the course is short the greens are not perfect, the key to the course is manage it well and you will be rewarded.

I've been averaging 2 per round at my home course but birdies don't bother me. I'm concentrating on no doubles which is what has been card killers.

I try to never expect any birdies to be honest though we do have a couple of drivable par 4s and a couple of reachable par 5s. That's not to say they are not gratefully accepted when they do come along. It's easy to fall into the trap of seeing a par as somehow a bad thing on a shorter hole and I used to get a bit frustrated and put pressure on myself unecessarily at some points in the round. I now just take it as it comes and try my best to birdie the lot.

I never go out expecting birdies. The key is to keep giving yourself opportunities and hope you can convert a few. If you start thinking about making a quota it can only add pressure particularly in a comp

I expect none, and have never been disappointed !

When i had a purple patch last summer and had three gross rounds in the mid 70's,i didn't have one birdie in any of the rounds. Our greens are fairly large, and have some severe slopes, so just hitting them can often mean you are struggling not to three putt, rather than expecting to one putt. More likely to get birdies in the winter when the greens are slower, and not so severe. We also only have two par 5's ,which i think are more likely to yield birdies.

I dont think theres any harm in expecting birdies during your round,or even thinking some holes are more favourable,i cant see any pressure in that.I cant understand where the pressure comes from, many times on the forum most people talk about going out and enjoying your round.Day in day out i play my course and i know it inside out,and i certainly know where my birdie chances can be,thats not pressure, thats confidence in your ability, planning and execution.Playing for money or in a big comp, yes there will be pressure, but definately not in a weekend roll up

I had 2 birdies in the medal on Saturday which was a bonus. it was the 20 plus dropped shots on the other 16 holes that was the killer.

Still..... one was a two which is always a bonus, especially when they're wasn't too many on the day and it was worth £27!! happy days!!

I never expect any, and average just under 1 a round. I'm more concerned with keeping doubles off the card, which I did for the first time ever the weekend before last.

The most I ever had was 7, including 4 in a row, and have had 5 two times.
