At the end of the day I am not the longest hitter - maybe 220-240 AVERAGE. On the other hand I am consistent and would rather play a 5 or 6 iron (which I practice with regularly) and know that I am swinging within myself and that I can trust my swing than try and hammer a drive and be playing a wedge from cabbage.

There are no pictures on a medal scorecard. Its all about how many and not how or how far.

Happy golfing
Homer

'The proof of the pudding will be in the eating' so to speak at the GM forumers inaugural tournament next spring (maybe).
There we will see these so called 300 yd hitters in action and all will be revealed!

For me 270 is a very good result, have hit it about 300 with a following wind but very rarely. Average probably 240-250 if truth be told and I am one of the longer hitters at my club.

I can't see to the end of my range, bad eyesight as well as tortoise tempo. What I do know is that I've measured off my best drives with my FT-3, they are all about the same. R-L, (10 yards movement) and somewhere between 262-270. This is an accurate count considering the position of the yellow tees if necessary.....which I think a lot of folks forget!!

Yesterday down the 9th I hit 4 balls, 3 pretty good and one that never quite got up. There was 7 yards between all 4, confirming (from John_Fs testimony, about 6 weeks ago) that a modern driver offers a good return on less than perfect. I had about 85 in on a 330 (20 off the white @350, on the matt) hole = 245. Goes to show how the roll affects the result.

Ha ha the trousers popped open. It was a regular Diamanta shaft in it but once I got my timing it went well. It sounds so much more like a golf club too. Thats why I called it Rihanna. I can see a swift divorce from Cheryl in the new year.

What L4V was it?
just looking at the Cobra website, making me almost doubt buying a new Wilson Staff Dd6.
Im so brand loyal to Wilson it would have to take something extra special to pull me away.

Sounds a lot better doesn't it.

I'm getting my hands on the L4V next week and cannot wait, I can't believe you got to it first you lucky b@stard!

Have already ordered mine, the Cobra rep has assured me that nobody will have this for keeps before me down my end and I simply cannot wait to get this piece of golfing pornography in my bag.

Was it long for you?

To be brutally honest it is identical to the F-speed LD except it has a composite crown. It still has the two dimples on the crown but the key factor for me is the accoustics of the club. You no longer need earplugs.
At £250 it is well priced too.

Lookin' so smooth and all that, will Rihanna trust you out-n-about the range. Two timing at your age......

Good swinging, Andy. You're pounding them and putting a good flight on these.

Look a wee bit less relaxed than your previous vid, though. Tighter grip? Is it the nerves or the excitement? Are we allowed to spill the beans?

im not a big hitter at all probably average about 260 but i very rarely have to use any longer than a 3 iron to any green, been known to crush the odd one over 300 but its definetely not the norm

Interesting about 3 wood. The distance between my 3 wood and driver isn't huge by any means.

Last night my 3 wood was carrying 210 off the mat which was only 10-20 shorter than the driver but then the balls wre wet and it was very thick air.

In perfect conditions a good driver carries around 250-260 and a 3 wood 220-230.

Justifies the point of view of a guy I know who doesn't even carry a driver. He play 3,5,7 woods, 3,4 rescues, 5-9 irons, 54 and 60 wedges, a chipper (ha ha) and putter. He is a good golfer though so perhaps there is justification for leaving the big-stick in the cupboard for some people!

Considering that the original post said that the average driving distance for UK golfers is around 200 yards, I would say that an average of 260 and the occasional one around 300 yards makes you a big hitter for an amateur.

I've always thought that I just don't have the natural coordination that it takes to produce a truly powerful golf swing but it's amazing the difference a lesson can make. There are times when I've started a lesson hitting a 7 iron a mere 130 or so because I'm cutting across it so badly but after a half hour of coaching, I can be hitting it well past the 150 marker on the range. I just wish I could do that all the time.

Driver-wise, I probably only hit it 240-250 with my absolute Sunday best drives and would average more around the 220 mark. Again, I know that technique has a lot to do with it and if I could sort out my swing path once and for all, 240 would hopefully become the norm rather than the exception. There's no way I could hope to hit it 260+ on average.
