A few months ago I had tonsillitis. I've never had it before and I'm told it was a bad case. The whole tonsils thing is just one part of it, the worst part is the back pain, weakness and long lasting high temperatures.

After not eating for 3 or 4 days I had crazy hunger for Chinese hot and sour soup. It was like a drug. It made me feel so good after being so bad. I ate it for days afterwards.

Well this week I have had a virus of some kind. Again no food for days. Wife has just been and got chips and curry source and hot and sour soup.

I swear my local Chinese take away is going to put the big phama companies out of business!

I think the body has an instinct that tells you what to have when you're poorly. My instincts occasionally lead me astray, e.g. high temp and the onset of a cold = large, large whisky and a steaming hot bath.

A good tip for tonsillitis, inc the aches and high temp. Gargle dissolvable asprin, eventually swallowing for the aches and high temp. It takes the vast majority of sting out of your throat.

For sure your body tells you want it needed but I am also thinking spicy food helps you sweat out some of the badness that is filling your body. Maybe.... Or I just like spicy food...

All 4 of my kids currently have tonsillitis, (well one had hers out, but has the spots etc on the base where they were removed!) it's horrible. (Gonna buy penicillin shares!!) I never had it until I was 20, come 22 I had it about ten times. Had them removed aged 23 and it was the most horrific experience of my life. 3 weeks off work and it was awful.

Good luck al! If you have found a cure, the. Happy days!

Had mine out at 6, but during my early 30's I started again with throat infections. Doc said it was probably remnants and arranged for another ream out with Dettol and a wire brush. Yes, it was horrendous. And a week later the wound started bleeding - now that was mega scary.

I get tonsillitis every year around this time, my tonsils get covered in white spots swell up and are very painful.
Ampicillin was normally prescribed and would clear up in 2 days , and i always finished the course .

But not anymore they try not to use antibiotics unless its really urgent.
I was told gargle with salt water drink plenty of water , and take Paracetamol.
I struggled for about 10 days before it cleared up. .:(

A few drops of tea tree oil in water is brilliant to use for gargling. Gargle every half hour or so with it at the first sign of a sore throat and it usually stops it developing into anything nasty.

And those who suffer, are you all feeling like death and having high temperatures?

I had it earlier this year and people who've never had it liken it to a sore throat... sigh.

I was feverish and so weak from my inability to eat anything.

Swallowing was so intensely painful even if I wasn't eating, so actually trying to take food down my throat was like sliding a sharp blade down my gullet.

Thankfully for me antibiotics sorted me out in a couple of days.
