basically i am fairly new to golf and after a few rounds i have discovered my driving is appalling as i constantly slice the ball. i am looking for the best advice or places to find the best advice? can anyone help?

Welcome along. Simple answer would be to book a block of lessons with a local PGA pro, practice the drills shown, and get out and play as much as you can

+1
That is about as simple as it gets. Lessons, practice, play and most important of all have fun, we play this game for pleasure (apparently).

learn to chip. any monkey can get the ball in and around the green in two hacks. its all about getting down in another two from there.

U didn't see me today! I was epic for all of the wrong reasons... Chipped ok, but still put in a cricket score.

If in interim before lessons you play, my advice would be use your most reliable club from the tee. If that's a 6 iron, so be it. A 150yrd 6 iron will get you on every par 4 in 3 and par 5 in 4. This would set you up to 2 putt each hole and play to 18 handicap (isn't my theory great!?)

welcome - if it makes any difference you are already 'normal'; the bad news is that many still do this 10 years on....

As HJS stated at the start of the thread get yourself to your local pro, make sure basic are correct from the start.
Grip posture ball position then work from there. Will be much work to do in between lessons but it's the best wat to improve, may not seem like it at times when you start out as it maybe 1 step forward 2 steps back,
Good luck.

If you decide to get a 'How to' golf book, the best one is 'Golfs Golden Rule'
It's largely about the impact zone, it certainly explains how to release the club head through the ball.

Here is a link to their website. Suggest you click the 'watch video' section.

Thankyou everyone for your advice and hospitality :) i will be looking at having a few lessons and at golfs golden rules and i will let you know how i get on :) thanks

As everyone has said, THE most important thing is to book lessons right from the start before you groove any bad habits. Then, even MORE important than THE most important thing, is to stick with what you are taught!! Absolutely pointless forking out hard earned dosh if you are not going to work on the right things.

And remember, the changes that the pro makes might (will) feel completely weird and alien but stick with them.

Good luck
