Best value hidden gems

Wow that is pricey for a membership. I'd reckon a decent course up here is £600 to 700 a year.

St Andrews ticket counts, but I'd be knackered playing 2 rounds a day consecutively. On society outings we play 2 games on one day and the old calves are complaining at night.

Blimey - where have the real men gone these days? On our annual "tour" we go away for a week (8 days - 2 days travel 6 days golf) and we'd be disappointed if we didn't get in at least twelve rounds....

And yes, it is pricey for membership near (or inside) the M25. Our subs are the price of just a few beers short of what Homer pays. But they are going up by £300 next year. (Yes, you read that correct, "by £300" not "to £300")

Blackmoor in Hampshire, coffee, bacon bap and golf £29.00,or coffee ham egg and chips and golf £32.00.
Great course in fantastic condition all year round.Must be in top 3 in Hampshire, and a hidden gem!

Traigh on west coast of Scotland near Mallaig. Basic, 9 holes, tricky, £16 for the day. I got to the first green and thought it looked a bit uneven but then looked around at the scenery and suddenly appreciated that there's a lot more to golf than great greens. Brilliant day, golf as it was meant to be.

Traigh is an outstanding golf course, I go up to Arisaig every year and hire a cottage. Great place for the kids, lovely golden sandy coastline and just a great relaxing place.

I played Traigh the morning of my wedding before getting married on the beach at Cambusdarroch. Some lovely par 3's in the best setting I've ever played golf in, better than Rothesay and Loch Lomond!

I remember playing Traigh one evening about 1930 and the greenkeeper came up to me, air rifle in hand and about half a dozen dead rabbits in the other and offered me a couple for the pot!
