Best shot ever so far?

3-wood on the 16th of the Old Course at St.Andrews in 2013. Hanging on at +4 gross with a life ambition to shoot sub-80 round there. Was struggling with my swing through nerves and my caddy insisted on the 3-wood and a line to the right of the bunkers even though there was out of bounds tight right.
"What if I push it again?"
"Don't".
I didn't - nailed it way down the centre and then made an easy par and got my gross 77. Will never ever forget that shot.

18th at Thetford in a club foursomes county final several years ago. We were beating the other clubs star pairing (one really nice chap, the other a horribly smug ex-pro - this is a family forum so use your imagination for 'alternative wording') when my partner skies his tee shot leaving me around 240 to the green. Twitched, fiddled and adjusted myself into position and banged a 3 wood to the centre and a safe par. Couple of kind spectators said it was best shot they'd seen by an amateur under the circumstances.

Been lucky enough to have hit a few great ones in different situations and probably change my mind each time I think about it..

Missed raised green 15yds right and 20ft past pin position - pin close to front and RHS of green and severe slope in green back to front Ball not sitting great in light rough - maybe 6ft below level of green with short steep slope of about 4ft up to playing surface. I picked a spot on the bank level with my ball and about a foot down from putting surface. Pitch it on that spot and it'll pop up in the air; land softly on the green and roll down the slope to the hole. I pitched it absolutely exactly where I intended and indeed it reacted exactly as I'd hoped - but it then proceeded to roll gently down the slope and into the hole. My PPs in the four said it was most incredible pitch like that they'd ever seen :)

I had the same shot a couple of weeks later - and did exactly the same - except this time it didn't drop - ah the vicissitudes of golf :)

Mine is nothing special at all really. I was 1 up coming up the 18th in the final of the singles KO and it was my first ever final. Matey played first and missed the green right down a steep bank, best he could hope for would be up and down to save par. I had about 130 to go, slightly uphill so hit a smooth 8 iron right into the middle of the green leaving a 20ft 2 putt for par and the win. I was absolutely bricking myself and controlling the nerves enough to execute what was a pretty easy shot gave me huge satisfaction. My first major board comp win :)

Yup - good one that - it's not just the complexity of the shot or how brilliantly it's been executed - it's also the pressure under which you are having to play a shot.

Par 4 last hole - club Texas Scramble - we had to take a "not so special" drive and have 200 or so left to the flag in the left rough, both team mates have basically duffed their attempts, mine is as a good a strike as I can recall with my hybrid to 6 feet. We holed out and took home the spoils. Felt good about that one.

Blimey....comps must be really tough at your place....putting the flag in the rough is harsh!

Not a big hit but one that just worked for me.

120-130 ydrs to go, ball sat 10 foot behind two trees, I had a 5-6 foot gap between them and then had to carry over two bunkers.

Hit a very sweet 9 iron, through the trees and onto the green ending up 4 foot (ish) to the hole, got a great cheer and round of applause for the group on the other fairway, I took a bow, walked up the green and then missed my putt :D

Always find this a very hard question to answer, do you go for the best outcome? The shot you felt you controlled perfectly? Or a bit of both? Guess it's personal preference really.

For me there is one that sticks out, and that was a 3 hybrid on a slightly downhill 200 yard par 3. Pin was near the front of the green, and I knew if I hit it well it would make it. Absolutely flushed it, had a beautiful flight, all over the line of the flag. Didn't see it land as there was a large tree obscuring the view of the green. Absolutely chuffed to see it sat maybe 6/8 inches from the hole. I wasn't even upset that it was so close to an ace, long par 3's are my least favourite type of hole and I was playing very erratically on the day. A tap in birdie on a hole I always struggled with, after picking and committing to a brave shot was just an incredible feeling.

2nd shot on the 18th at Pleasington same week it had been used as Open Qualifier.

It was the first time I'd played there and all I could remember about the green was that there was a path then large windows, so thought pattern was "do not go long, DO NOT GO LONG".

Holed it.

Walking up the 18th and there was quite a few members lining the outside (smoking ban had just come in force) clapping me in. Seriously felt like Tiger Woods coming up the 18th at Augusta.

Our 18th is a 230yd par 3, slightly uphill. 2 years ago, I lost a knockout much in the club champs on 18 after hooking my tee shot into rough, leaving a blind shot to the green which I over hit into deep nonsense.

2 weeks later, I walked on to the 18th tee in a medal at +2 gross and hooked the tee shot to almost exactly the same spot. This time, I hit the best 54* wedge shot I've ever hit to 8 feet below the hole. As I stood over the putt, I realised it was for 71 and got a bit tight, as that would be my PB by 4 shots. Then I said to myself "Even if you miss, it's still 72" which took all the tension away and I rolled the putt right into the middle of the hole.

Not sure if the pitch or the putt were my favourite.

Second shot to the 14th at St Andrews. Driver off the deck over hell bunker. Caddie told me to play up short and right, but what did he know. Finished 20 yards short of the green. Nice par to lose the hole.:(

I also hit a chip from the back of the 18th in the same round, heavy rough on a down slope, which needed to go in to break 80. Had a good few spectators right behind me which didn't make the shot any easier. Hit what looked like the perfect chip, but it lipped out and had to settle for a four and an 80.
