Best irons for around £500-600?

Looking for a new iron set, 5-SW would be ideal within the above price range. I’m playing off 18 at the moment and expect to be in the mid-handicap range come next spring.

Naturally something that offers distance and forgiveness for the odd poor swing is what I’m after.

Any recommendations?

All depends on your tastes and needs mate.

Forgiveness is all subjective, a bad strike will give a bad shot no matter what you use. As for distance, even the weaker lofted players irons shift it out there.

For that budget you’ll get some new sets and mainly all 1-2 year old sets.

An open range is the biggest must when demo-ing irons for me, to be able to see flight and shape.

Then after you’ve tried them all, go buy W/S V6 irons ?

As per above, what is really meant by "best". Any recommendations will only be what seemed "best" for any individual at that point in time and may not apply to someone else with their needs and characteristics.
Generally there are trade offs in play also, but all the usual suspects make good quality gear. You can usually find a review on-line to back up most choices.
Finding somewhere that is still doing fittings for a slightly older model is one way of keeping cost down.
Or maybe just embrace that perhaps you really just fancy something more shiny, and the biggest factor for improving will be you and not the tools ??

Most sets are to PW these days as we're encouraged to buy additional 'specialised' wedges.
You'll know which manufacturers have the big budgets already I suspect and they are good. For me if looking for value new then perhaps would be looking at Cleveland, Wilson Staff, Benross.

We could suggest 20 different sets and I'm sure they're all good but all that matters is that you like them. I'd definitely gather ideas from here but definitely go and try before you buy!

Certainly give golfbidder a look or the golf clubs 4 cash website also has some good deals on.
In that price bracket I would be looking at a better spec nearly new rather than a brand new set.

I'm not sure if there have been any 'bad' clubs made in the last 5 years or so, players irons, distance irons etc etc. I'm playing Lynx VT and they are terrific and cheap as chips.

"The odd poor swing", well I doubt that many of us here can relate to that, how unfortunate for you!

I would probably be looking at a relatively young second hand set, something like a Srixon 585, maybe a 585/785 blended set, a Callaway Apex 19, again possibly a blended set with Apex Pro, Titleist AP2, various Mizunos, that sort of thing. All of those, if fitted with a suitable shaft, would be playable across a wide range of handicaps.

I have M4 and they are excellent, M6 get rave reviews.

If you're spending £500+ on irons, get fitted, don't go second hand - unless they have your exact specs, to me that kind of money on 2nd hand seems folly. I'd go and try as many fittings as you can and then see what takes your fancy.

Whether they are moulded, cast etc.

Other companies design their own gear... what I mean by open mould is it’s available for anyone to buy and stick their name on it.It wasn’t a comment on the way it’s made

I bought full set of one length cobra speedzone as I struggled with irons thinking they would help. I did not like them at all..
After reading up and watching reviews I decided an older set of pings may help.
Transformation is unbelievable really
