But then you would also have to try out the hardest clubs too, as a comparison. This could get expensive.

That's true, but I've played with low h'cap blades before (Mizuno TP 11) and already know that these cost me now and again. Thinking logicaly (as it were) I've not played with an out and out GI iron and might discover that something amazing happens.....like getting a better hit on one of the occasional mis-hits. No iron is going to fix the really bad nasties, but it would be an interesting discovery.

I was fascinated by the maltby list.....it's clearly a tool to prove how great maltby clubs are....but interesting to note the amount of Callaway irons that get high marks.

Only problem with super GI irons is the offset.....I'm expecting some old X series berthas to have too much of this.

I got a set of mx900s a month or so ago and cannot reccomend them enough. I love them because they all feel great as they're forged but the best thing is that this set is progressive. The long irons are so easy to hit, if a little chunky and I can shape them when I need to, but the short irons aren't chunky at all, looking down at the 8 iron, theres no stupidly thick top line and the only a small cavity at the back as thats all you really need once you have eough loft in your hands. I get really nice feel and accuracy when I want it in the short irons and full on forgivness, with feel I might add, with the long irons. I'm a 28 handicaper and I really enjoy getting the 3 and 4 irons out, how often do you here that! Oh and I nearly forgot, they're going reaaaaly cheap now, I got mine for £150 off the bay!
Hope this helps
Nick

MX-900....?

MOI 27 MPF 503 Conventional

503! I suspect you might be a better player than you give yourself credit for.

These are listed as NOT a game improvement iron....I'm glad you like them though.....

I can assure you they are, heres the mizuno blurb.

The MX-900â„¢ is not only the most Hi-Tech iron Mizuno has ever produced, but it also delivers unbelievable Game Improvement performance for mid to high handicappers...... The super forgiving, extra wide sole increases ease of launch and delivers consistent ball striking from all types of lies.

If you've seen the 3 or 4 irons you would realise that these are defineatly game improvement irons!

I agree with you....having seen them in real life, but I was surprised at the rating, that's all.
So, if you believe Mizuno, then you can't buy a better GI iron, but if you believe the MPF rating (which strikes me as "independent", so to speak) then they are not as forgiving as they were designed to be.
Maybe the "progressive" nature of the set means that the short irons are more conventional (maltby tested the #6 iron), therefore I think both your experience and the MPF rating can actually co-exist?
