Having had the yips myself, I cannot agree that confidence has anything to do with it. I am, and have always been a confident putter, but went through two years where on 6 foot and under putts, occasionally the ball could go anywhere. It was like at impact, an electric shock went through my hand, causing me to clench my grip, and the result was a nightmare. The only way I could stop it was to change my grip so that the trigger point in my right hand was somewhere else on the grip. This was more of a physical thing than a mental one (although they are obviously linked). I suppose it is a bit like a nervous twitch, which could be psycological, or not. Can't see that getting a lesson from a pro would do anything to help at all, you've just got to sort it out yourself. I could nail 6 foot putts all day on the practice ground no problem, but on the first green, no. Weird. Never tried the broom stick though. Not that desperate.
