* of us are making the trip up to play the derby on saturday and then the brabazon on sunday. With a good mix of HC's from 12 through to 22 it should be a good laugh.

Any tips on playing both courses and more importantly what to expect.

Expect a hefty bar bill if you're staying overnight in the hotel - cheap it ain't! :D

However the facilities are great and the Brabazon will be in fantastic condition, especially the greens. Never played the Derby (played Brab and PGA National both times I've been).

You'll have a great time though - have a good one.

never played the derby, but you wont fail to enjoy the brabazon, not just for the 10th and 18th holes but the whole experience, make sure to take it all in and enjoy it, the greens are very fast no matter how wet, so a fair bit of time on the putting green before would be advised, youve got to have a go at driving the 10th, last time we played after we came of the 18th the marshall let us have a rip at it, you realise what a great shot seve,s must have been, and dont get to greedy with your tee shot on 18 the further left you go the further the carry, and stay out of the bunkers, some of them are monsters apart from that youve got nothing to worry about :D and try not to be too shocked at the bar prices

Enjoy the experience OS.

The Brabazon is fantastic and you should have a great time (weather permitting).

The Derby on the other hand is more of a "municipal" type course and you will get all sorts on it. The last time we played it, there were 7 groups on the first tee with a group about 100 yards up the fairway.......3 airshots, then a toe-ender into the hedge; repeat ad nauseum.

On the bright side, if you turn up looking the part, as we did first time, they told us that a large group had just gone down to the tee and didn`t look like they knew which end of the club to hold. They offered us a no cost upgrade to the PGA National.

greyhound, ill bare in mind the course upgrade, out of 8, two are off 22, the other 6 are below 16 so maybe we will get lucky, although i do expect the weather to tone down numbers ... bloody english summer!

oddsocks how much is it for this package im looking to book there next month to play the brab and pga ive played the pga but id love to play brabazon dod u know any good plaices to book 1 day packages for 36 holes?

As others have said, you'll have a cracker. Hotel grounds are perfectly manicured, just don't expect to have any pocket money left if you expect to have a drink or 2 at the bar!

A lot of people disregard the Derby as the poor relation and while it's not as good as the rest, it's still a decent course and a good warm-up for the main event!

Dean, we originally paid £189 for derby Saturday & PGA on Sunday, but after a chat in the group we upgraded to £239 for derby Saturday and brabazon Sunday. Both packages included Saturday evening meal, entry to club, board in the belfry hotel and breakfast.

Cheers guys really looking forward to it, bats are in having grips fitted ready for the best English summer weather ;)

good choice upgrading the pga is a cracking course, if you think the bunkers on the brabazon are big wait until you see the ones on the pga i reckon its a tougher course than the brabazon, have a good un, theres normally a few hen nights in bel-air ;) so have fun

I went with a group end of march just before change in prices for summer and would recommend it. The derby we played on the first day and it was windy as anything I had ever seen, par 3 3rd 151 yards we was all taking 3 or 4 irons. It is a gentle course compared to the PGA. The PGA we played the next day and I would recommend the course guide if you do end up playing it, its the only course where I have throughly had to think what club I need to hit to avoid bunkers and to position yourself for future shots. The par 3 3rd on the PGA has big faced bunkers if you miss the green to either side.

As others said bar prices were expensive was about £3.95 a pint. The whole place is lovely and you can only stand there and think what must of happened in places as you walk past the USA changing rooms and walk by the entrance to the European rooms. The Bel air nightclub when we went was full of blokes who avoided the dancefloor but its worth a visit.

I am sure you will love it, we all want to go back and play the brabazon as you have full view of the 10th hole and it just amazes you, you have to go for it
:D
