Been given an ultimatum

At my club I play in a regular 3 ball, but as usual with any group of guys, we all can’t play at the same time week in week out. Or like last weekend, the 2 guys I normally play with were playing in the Winter Greensomes together, so I get left without a game.

So generally when I’m stuck I have a couple of alternatives.

1. The official club roll up, which normally consists of newer members, but there’s no guarantee if, 1 or 20 people will show up, so can be a bit hit and miss.
2. The alternative roll up, nice bunch of guys, all been members for years, play every Saturday and Sunday without fail, have their own handicap system, have a little bet and a couple of beers afterwards, very well organised.

So last Sunday I managed to get a game with the alternative roll up boys and ended up playing with, what I suppose you could call their main man. So we’re walking down the 4th and he turns round to me and gives me an ultimatum. Your either with us and join the group, or you’re out and don’t play with us again.

So my question is, what do I do, I’ve been racking my brains for a couple of days now and cant figure out what to do?

What age are you now ? are you still doing what you are told by strangers ? let him shove it mate i would have left him to it there and then , loadsa people looking for a game without this kinda nonscence .. hitler lives on in windsor eh ?

Well...first of all, I find his attitude stinks. His way or no way.

The saving grace is that you will get a game every week though...but I dunno, it would all depend on what the other blokes were like, it does sound like a clique to me and I don't like that sort of crowd. They seem to be a club within a club or a society of the club with their own handicapping system.

I find your club a little strange. When I played in the Uk at my (one and only) club, we had comps every Saturday and Sunday and you put your name down in the pro shop. I thought most clubs were like that.

he sounds a great guy full of empathy and warm social skills:angry:

Totally agree with the others, I would avoid this type of attitude, he obviously thrives on cliques and little gangs. Not to be encouraged IMO.

A roll up is a roll up (swindle, greedy, what ever). It is against our club rules to exclude any one who turns up, unless the allocated tee times are full. Any swindle doing this would have their tee times revoked. It is the whole point of a roll up, you can just turn up at a specific time and get a game.

Have you played with them before and taken the ££'s, he might want a chance to win the money back?

if you have got your usual playing partners each week and this was just a one off because of the greensomes match, i would tell the fella do do one.

Invite him to go forth and multiply. Join our gang or else. What a plonker.

I would have thought there was plenty of others to find a game with, even the newbies. Cliques still exist at golf clubs, but personally I would have nothing to do with them. Hope he rots in hell.

Oh, and seasons greetings ;-)

Took the cash on Sunday, 42 points, won the singles and the team comp.

Personally I prefer to play in a competition where there are a few playing and not just with me mates in 3 or 4 ball for a couple of quid, but that's me.

I played for a pub Society out here when I started again in May. He was a dictator too..and the prizes were a bottle of scotch for 1st and 2nd. I don't drink it and when I won (four times) I exchanged them for Bailey's..which I enjoy. BUT, it was a dictatorship and I joined my current society and if you win your Division, you get a free round of golf on that course. Runner up get 20€, 3rd 10€.

In the end mate, it is all down to what YOU want and who WITH you want to play. me personally? Like others, I'd probably tell him where to stick it.....but if the other blokes are okay, well, rock and a hard place ain't you?

Experienced the same at a club I was a member at many years ago. I went and found others for a game. Strangely enough they'd suffered the same and set up there own little fiddle... you'll probably find the same, and with it a game.

My main thoughts are, my 3 ball generally tees off after there last group has gone out, so we all might as well play with them. And when those weekends come round that any of us are stuck for a game, these guys will be there.

If I said what I really think I'd get a warning from the mods but I have a funny feeling I probably would have picked my ball up and walked off there and then

this obviously adds to the complication of the situation because your going to see them every week anyway, but personally i wouldnt want to be involved in there group enjoy last weeks winning and tell them where to go!

That bloke sounds like a complete tosser. At my club on a Tuesday and Thursday they have a role up. Anyone in the club is welcome irrespective of age or ability. Does not matter if you only play now and again. We have a computerised login for comps and just swipe your self in on that before 11 and you will get drawn out in a 3-ball to play best 2 of 3 stableford. If not for that I would have been buggered. New to the area joined the club knowing no one. Thanks to that I can always arrange a game now.
