No thanks needed its what were all here for ;)

Looking to start playing some new balls....any ideas for a cheap alternative to the prov1?

Work hard, give up being good at golf, then play with any old rubbish like the rest of us!!

Um, don't know really.

Z-stars at £25 a dozen is probably the best bet.

So you make a post that could have helped fellow forummers but didn't actually have the information - mmm real useful

Well, it is actually useful, he informed you that balls were on offer, if your that interested you could pop into a local store, phone them or google it and see whats on offer.

Quite simple really instead of the sarcasm, or was it just plain rudeness?

The Intro

The Dunlop LoCo Golf Balls feature a low-compression design, so the ball compresses easily on the clubface allowing better energy transfer and improved rebound for better distance.

The Good

The LoCo’s is a super-soft ball and playable for approach shots into the green.

Off the tee, this Dunlop golf ball’s low spin characteristics gives golfers a straighter, almost self-correcting flight.

The Bad

Advanced dimple pattern maximizes distance, while producing a slightly lower flight trajectory, which is fine in many cases, though I enjoy sending a golf ball high in the air.

Overall Rating

The Dunlop LoCo golf ball is a worthy addition to most golf bags.

Gotta be good with a writeup like that, eh ?

And at £6 for 15 I'll never be buying Titleist again. :D

Seriously, I'm borassic, so I tried 'em rather than lake balls. They're not the very cheapest I've seen but they're damn close.

And they seem ok for the time being. Probably not up to your standards, but it really does depend on how broke you are.

Because of my slower swingspeed. 80 mph. I like a low compression ball. I have found the Callaway Pearl to meet these needs. I have more distance and spin. The pearl also putts very soft, and slow. Which I like. The question is, are you man enough to play a womens ball.

Welcome in Kingmary and enjoy the forum. In answer to your question, yes I would use one if it's good enough!

Oh, and if you kindly invite forummers to play at your track, hope you won't be offended if I decline - as I can't afford the air fare!! :)

I've been using Titleist for the last couple of years. usually buy from the same couple of retailers on Ebay. At my standard, buying pearl/ pearl1 grade isn't making a lot of difference to my game over brand new balls, but the cost saving is tremendous, given the fact I tend to lose one a round at least.

Last weekend I switched to Srixon AD333 as I was running low and had a couple lying around. I was very pleasantly surprised. It played very well, much better than I was expecting, so much so that I have just ordered 50 pearl/ pearl1 grade from Ebay for £21.99. A bargain.Should last a good few months, but playing Celtic Manor in July, so may use most of them up there in the water, and end up buying them back off Ebay a month later :).

Re JJB reclaimed Pro.v1

I have used these before and found them to be of good quality just make sure that you dont pick up the refurbished one's.

Alternatives at a reasonable price compared with ProV1's... Well many of us will not get the best out of a ProV1 ball, or even a lot of high price premium balls.

The irony is Titleist NXT & NXT Tour are probably one of the best alternatives to a ProV1. They are not going to be a ProV1, but most amatures will get a better performance out of an NXT Tour.

I love the new Srixon Z-Star, but to be honest as much as I love the feel of it, its not going to reward my current play other than around the green.

The Z-URS was a great ball & can still be found in the shops for a good deal in price. The Srixon Trispeed is a good ball, but generally overpriced & be as expensive as a Z-URS ball.

I really do like the Bridgestone B330RX, it suits a swing a little slower than the norm, but still for quickish swings. Prices for these are competative, but still high.

As for lake or referbished balls, I think I'd rather buy brand new balls for a lower price, as generally we can find consistent lower or mid price balls we can rely upon.

As for the Dunlop & Slazenger issue. At one time both compaies had a standing like Titleist does these days. Few of Dunlop or Slazenger balls are worth considering. Apaert for a couple of exceptions....

...The Slazenger ball though harder than I like does offer the Slazenger B51 with good consistency & performance. Dunlop-65 balls offer a nice soft feel, combined with good distance & a nice overall performance. a big improvement over anything else they have to offer. So two balls from what are now considered budget brands.

Srixon AD333 balls are probably a ball many amatuer uses or ought to use, but can't really say they are an alternative or equivilent to a ProV1, because they are not.

Not tried the ne Big Bertha Diablo, but at the sorts of price they are going for, must be worth trying.I used to rate the old Callaway Big Bertha ball, again not going to be a challenge to the ProV1, but certainly worth a try.

why not try the Pinnacle gold soft balls. I think you can get 15 for £12. I have tried these and was pleasantly surprised!! They go real long off the tee but don't feel rock hard. Ok, they are not the greatest of spin balls but at that price.....
Felt good off the putter.

Did i read somewhere pinnacle was owned by Titleist??
