Balls

hmm, i always putt with a different ball to what i drive with.
Depending on whether im likely to lose it or not, i drive with a dunlop or something better i may have found, but always change to an ad 333 for putting, i like the blue line for lining up.

That is surely not allowed? Changing balls...?

So you always ignore rule 15 when playing then?

Unless the ball is lost, out of bounds or substitued within the rules then what you are doing isn't actually allowed.

That I'm afraid is against the rules of golf. You have to use the same, or same type if you loose it for the whole hole. So any comp you have played and done that, you should have been Dq'd

Unless it is a condition of competition then you may substitute, where the rules allow, any ball with another conforming ball. If say you lose a Pro v1 on a hole it is not a requirement to put another Pro V1 into play unless the "one ball condition" is in place.

tbh, where i've been playing dont take members, only affiliate members .Entries to comps are the same 10-12 players and thats starting to drop off, myself included.
Just saves a few quid, but does get you into bad habits.

I'm probably not good enough to justify using the PRO V1x's but I love stepping on the first tee and teeing up one of those bad boys!

I'm playing off 20 at the moment and use a Wilson DX3 and Wilson Staff FG.

Maybe for my handicap I should use something different but just love the feel of the Staff FG balls off the club.

I'm off 13 and use the Srixon Z Star.

Although I've recently used a NXT Tour S that I found, and reckon its a great ball. When I've finished using (lost) the rest of the Srixons I can see the Tour S making their way into the bag.

Just used one of these today.Smething of a contrast from the Z-Star VX! Felt nice and 3 birdies in 4 holes makes me think it could get used again!

To be honest it quite amusing when people discuss balls because each persons opinion is subjective.

One of the most under rated balls on the market is the Pinnacle Gold Precision and with courses being as water logged as they have been this summer if you hit it high enough it will stop just as quickly as a Pro V1.

We all have our favourites however where are the actual ball tests in laboratory conditions carried out? Where are the data sheets to support testing conditions and facts relating to spin rates, distance, stopping factor etc.

If the information is not widely available in the public domain, is it simply because a ball is a ball and it will go as straight or as far as you hit it

I'm a big fan of the Titleist NXT /NXT Tour and Srixon Soft Feel balls. Always feel very comfortable playing with them. I did however find a Titleist Velocity last week and have played with it for the last few rounds...very nice ball, and the fact that I haven't lost it yet speaks volumes :)

Playijng off 11. Currently using TM TP3 or 5 and trying to finish off the last my of my TP blacks. Other than that, it tends to be Srixon Z star, Bridgestone B330 RXS and ProV

To be honest I've accumulated an excess of balls from raffles, prizes and presents and so can afford to use decent balls with abandon. I'm lucky I guess as I don't have to worry if I have a bad one every now and again

I am currently off 18 and play the NXT tour.

The main reason I play these is that I get em free!!!!

Works promo balls - big company logo stamped on them and did I mention they are FREE?

Oh they fly ok also and you can putt them and all sorts but mainly they are free..

Play off 6> Pretty much in a bounce game will play with anything. Medals etc usually use an old penta tp or z star. For the last few weeks have been using RBZ as I have been getting far to much spin with the pentas and have only many occasions spun them off the greens etc where the greens are very receptive at the mo.

When with Westy last week the question was asked about balls, His view was until you stop losing them play with the cheapest balls you can buy.

Has anyone used Nike 20xi? I got them chucked in with my driver, but as they cost an hours wage per ball, I will not be using them at the moment
They're not bad at all. Much as I hate to admit it, because my view has always been that Nike make trainers and clothes, but not golf clubs/balls. Foolish and irrational, I know!

Think I stated Nike 2012 in my previous post, but I meant the 20xi!

Distance was improved on the Wilson Staff Dx3 soft, but wasn't overly keen on the feel off the putter face.

One of the best golfing put downs happened to a very young future Ryder Cup captain.
It was the Scottish stroke play championship and the Starter was doing a ball census of the players. the three ball on the tee were asked what ball they were playing and the young guy jokingly said Bogey.
'Aye that's probably good enough for you son' came the quick response.
