Played in a comp yesterday 18 hole stableford. Anyway I smashed a drive into some trees and thought it could be lost. Played a provisional which landed on other side of fairway. As it happened I found original ball and hacked it out sideways. PP picked up provisional, shouted me and threw it across fairway and it landed about three foot from my original ball.
I thought a minute or so later "wonder if there's any ruling re if the ball had hit my original ball". But if there was a penalty incurred, to who, me or PP.

It'd be covered by Rule 18-4 wouldn't it? No penalty, replace ball.

As soon as your original ball was found the provisional was null and void and you'd have just replaced your original ball where it was.
