Ball falling off tee peg!

So it's been a while since I was involved in something "unusual" on the course but today things were back to normal! Actually it was in the match ahead but I chatted to the guy afterwards about why he was playing from the ditch a yard in front of the 17th tee. Turns out his ball fell backwards off the tee as he was on the downswing and too late to pull out of the shot. He did wonder in fact how he managed to make any contact.

So, had he missed it would it count as a shot? If yes would he have to play the next one as it lies and therefore not be allowed to tee it up?

I'm guessing yes it's a shot and no he can't tee it up but not sure...

yes, any intention of trying to hit the ball is regarded as a shot, contact or not.

I'm sure he would be allowed to play from the last spot ie the tee and tee it up again under penalty of stroke and distance, so 3 off the tee!

This happened to Fragger a while back.
They way he placed the ball on the tee made it tip slightly forward. With it being a "friendly" game I didn't mention it but had a feeling it might topple.
Sure enough just as he got halfway down, it fell. He caught the top of it and it went about 10 yards....

Tragic.....

Yes it's a shot and no he's not allowed to tee it up, as it was part of his swing/intention to hit the ball if he had stopped or it had fallen off before commencement of shot then re-tee without penalty.

What happens then if you pull out of the shot as Woods did that time in the Masters as you are on the downswing. I assume you can re-tee it as you didn't actually make a stroke

Yeah if you pull out of the shot and don't attempt/intend to hit it, it's not a stroke and you can re tee without penalty.

Happened to me a month ago in a comp. Too late to pull out of the shot and it went 30 yards into a ditch. Cost me a triple. Without that, I'd have been Cat 1. Unbloodyreal.

Indeed. I recollect seeing Woods on TV aborting a drive very late on in his swing. I felt my the pain in my back just watching it.

Mind you, it hurts my back these days just to watch the rotation of the youngsters at my club.
