Played yesterday in a 4BBB Stableford match, total points for each pair over 18 holes determine the winners, so I’m not certain if that is still classed as matchplay?

My PP was on the edge of the fairway and while walking down the fairway one of our opponents ran over my PP’s ball with his trolley while looking at his phone. The ball was replaced and my PP didn’t end up scoring on the hole.

The guy who ran over the ball birdied the hole for 4 points and his partner doubled bogeyed.

None of us knew whether or not there should be a penalty applied. Ultimately it wouldn’t have affected the overall result, but as the comp is a league and losing scores are taken into account to decide any ties in the league it could potentially affect league positions later.

It would seem to me that you were playing a form of strokeplay, all be it with just two teams of competitors. Therefore their would be no penalty for your "opponent" (or outside influence - Rule 9.6) for moving yours or your partners ball.
