I played on Saturday and probably had the worst round of golf in my life. As my bio states I'm a 15 handicapper and although I have not even played for a year I was absolutely disgusted with my score of 98! Par 69.
No matter how hard I tried i just couldnt get it together, ok we all have bad rounds but 29 over! :D
I even had 30mins on the range and was hitting all of my irons really sweetly and my woods were slicing but nothing too bad.
Anyway its narked me all weekend because I look forward to my one game every week and this happens. Tomorrow's another day I suppose.

Same happened to me in the summer. Par 71, Handicap 12 score 100.

2 months later - Par 71 Handicap 12 score 76. medal won and a cut to 11.

No particular reason for it. I just lost my game for a while and then I found it lying under a bush somewhere!

If you've been able to get down to 15 then you can obviously do it. But don't get too down when things don't go right. Don't forget, sometimes the pro's can't break 80!!

Yep, last medal shot 92 net 80. Junk. Played quite well too, apart from 2 consecutive stupid holes where I ran up a phone book.

Had a Len Goodman on a par 3 (got into some trees, couldn't get out in a hurry). Ruins any card.

yes, I know that round it's reminiscent of my last medal. I thought as it was a winter medal that I would be spared the ignominy of the +0.1 but no.

Peterpumpkineater, dont feel bad, just think about a pro who goes to a major and comes in 14 over after the first round as several did some yrs back at St Andrews. ( I think about 10 players were between 9 and 15 over)Now thats having a bad round, when you consider the level of golf.lol.
I once carded 98 when my h/c was 8. 26 over, nett +19 lol.
I also played one hair pulling round where I made par on 11 holes, bogie on 3 holes, birdie on 1 hole, eagle on 1 hole and took 10 on one hole and 8 on another, playing off 7 at the time, finished 9 over.

I had a 9 on a par 5 last month in the medal. The stupid thing was I was still only +7 for the front 9 so playing pretty steady. The wheels came off on 11, the axle on 12 and think I left the gearbox and chassis on 17 and 18. Think I finished on nett 80 (+10) so I wouldn't worry.

I even came last (of those that finished) in our club championship with two rounds in the high 90's. My reaction is someone has to come last and at least I ground it out and didn't NR

People who NR suck. Why do they think it is better to be at the bottom of the list with an NR when they are embarassed about their score, when shooting any finishing score will put you higher up the leader board. They are pathetic, and to be despised.

On this same subject, do you think Kim should have finished his round after he was D/Q'd?

Me persoanally would have finished, if only for the practice, company and mannors I suppose.

Could Kim have continued? Doesn't a dq automatically pull him from the field?
Either way it would be an awkward situation whether he is obliged to continue or chooses to continue for practice, which I'm sure would not be permitted.

Only ever walked off the course once.
Playing in what was our weekly Wednesday afternoon Stableford, I was playing like an absolute drain.
I think I had 2 points after 6 holes, had lost 3 or 4 balls and just didn't want to be there.
I walked off after 9 and drove home.
The following week I went to play in the same competition and was pulled to one side by the "organiser" and left in no uncertain terms as to why it wasn't the done thing. I felt a complete and utter fool. Have never done it again whatever the score.

Kim could have continued, it was considered ungentlemanly not to. It is/was his choice though and I think he made the wrong one. People would have gained a lot of respect for him if he had stayed out there.

I think to call people who NR 'pathetic and should be despised ' pretty harsh  !. I admit that from time to time i NR ,i do this purely because if i keep trying to keep a score going i am more likely to become more and more upset with myself , therefore , if i'm not marking a score i can then concentrate on correcting what is wrong with my game (when i play the remaining holes) and make up for it in the next comp.

Walked off once.

My first ever competition, a stableford in driving rain.

Myself and my partner persevered with the conditions and played as much as we could. The greens were soaked with standing water everywhere. God knows why they didn't call it off. One theory was that we were out mid afternoon and most had completed or almost finished their rounds.

Needless to say, we were on the 15th fairway. I looked across to my partner, he looked at me and we both agreed it best to call it a day.

Gutted as it was my first comp but we both put a N/R in. I felt bad about it but even the club pro suggested we did the best thing considering the conditions out on the course.

I will generally NR once or twice in a season, it's nothing to do with embarrassment of carding a high score, it is more likely I'm not deriving any enjoyment from that game and would be better off doing something else with my spare time that particular day. It's supposed to be fun and leisurely not torture after all.
I cannot derive a lot of enjoyment from a game of golf once a scorecard is bust, using the rest of the round to try to cure your faults just isn't going to happen as your mind is in the wrong place to focus after an NR.
There is a degree of guilt with it but from my experience when a playing partner NR's because he's having a 'mare' the remaining members of his group tend to enjoy the game more when he's gone as the mood lifts and the swearing stops!
I don't know, I don't like NR'ing but sometimes it happens. No biggy!
However I would be inclined to NR only next to a clubhouse if the course layout works out that way, if not I'd play on until I was back at the 18th. I'm not up for walking miles to get off early. ;)

my club now has a notice up that it is not okay to NR. it says that on any hole on which you NR you return a 0 but that you should return the card. it promises action in the event of non-compliance but quite what that is I'm not sure.
