Sunday marks the start of our season with the President's Putter and the first competition of the year off the white tees.

They've been out of service since last year and I am not entirely looking forward to hitting about 3 clubs more into a healthy proportion of the greens on Sunday.

Just wondered, who's on the back tees yet at their place and how was it, if you were?

Our "back"tees are the same - more or less - as the normal tees. There's only about 100 yards difference between white and yellow tees and it only makes a difference on 1 hole.

And I can play equally bad from either..

About 350 extra for us. Most of that on about seven holes:

30 yards extra on the 2nd
Nearly 40 more on the 9th
30 odd on 10th
40 odd on the 13th & 14th
Almost 50 yards on the 235 yard par 3 16th
An extra 45 on the 17th

It makes it quite a different course! Especially with not much roll. :(

April for us I think, I can't wait to start playing qualifiers again. Our course has been measured for winter tee's but the 7th has been turned into a par 3 all winter while the fairway was returfed :(

We were off the tees today at our place and I dont think they could have gone any further back :( It did not make a huge difference when the wind was behind but when we turned and were coming back into a 15mph "breeze" it made a HUGE difference

yeah same back on the whites yesterday my first will be saturday and not looking forward to it. Extra 500 yards 75 of them on one hole alone! It does make one very difficult par 4 into a much easier par 5 which is something.

Aye, first comp this Saturday at our place so the White blocks will be out of hibernation. We play off forward tees in the winter for our 'social' golf and we have a black marker for any of the winter comps. Since it helps protect the main tee's from too much abuse during the winter I'm all for it. :D

We can also play off whites at any time of the year. Its actually been proven to reduce wear and tear on the tees as not everyone wants to play off the backs.

Win win situation if you ask me.

We're not kicking off properly until next month i think...
There have been plenty of winter comps but they've shortened our course off the whites....Our blu tee's are the championship and medal tee's usually...
Also we are still on winter rules as the fairways are still firming up...
Funny thing is this could all happen over 1 week...
I could go out on sat or sunday now and everything will be back in play :)

Always the back tees for me. I always want to play the full course and on some of our holes it can make a huge difference. The first is 229 of the whites and a tough test but off the yellow is only 169 and a much easier shot.

I don't mind the odd game off the yellow once in a blue moon to freshen it up but I always feel I've diddled myself in some way if I come in with 36 or more points

Yippee last day of winter tees was today, back to summer tees tomorrow. Comps are still played off wgite tees in winter but not many comps! can't wait as have done a lot of work over winter and want to test myself on the "proper course". First qualifier 13th April, roll on.

We aint off any of the proper tee's yet and haven't been for the last couple of weeks!

They let us play off pretty much all the proper tee's over winter when the weather was shocking but now the weather has picked up over the last couple of weeks they have the full course on temp tee's.

The tee boxes look in really good condition and look nice and green with plenty of grass but obviously it looks like they are saving them for the beginning of the season in april.

So i suppose it's worth it in the long run but it's abit annoying having to flatten down 2" rough before you can tee your ball up on some of the temps.

Again like others were always off the back tee's. Whether it's a comp or a roll up we play off the whites. Members privilege as all visitors have to play off the yellows.
Saying that theres not a huge difference between yellows and whites that I can see from our course. A the moment they're practically next to eachother.

Whites all the time at Dunbar, but still no choice at Royal Musselburgh. However, I always try and hit my tee shots with less club to offset the front tees. That way my second shots are played in from where my drive would roughly be if I was off the back.

Our white tees are out all year round, still havent played a single game off the yellows and dont intend to

I wish ours were but they put them into hibernation in the winter to protect them for the summer.

I rarely play off yellows as soon as the whites are out.
