I make more birdies on par 5's than anything else.
We have 2 on each 9.
The 2 on the back 9 are much more likely to deliver birdies than those on the front so, in general, I probably play a bit better on the back than the front.

Having said that there are a number of factors that will determine if I score better on the front or back...
They include which way the wind is blowing, which side of the bed I got out of, the number of sweeteners in my coffee, how easy it is to wind Fragger up...etc etc etc

Are you still at the 9 hole, Fish?

May this be part of it - play a good 9, think I can do this again, but sometimes try to hit that same great drive first time around with that extra 10%?

The tees are totally different, not just in length but positions so the drives are different shapes and some drop from par 5's to 4's and 4's to 3's so different clubs off the tees also. The back 9 is tougher though.

Fair enough, but do you pin hunt more second time around, as you know where they are, even if at different angles?

Depends on my distance in to them, I know what your saying but I don't think I'm consciously doing that, why don't some of you come down for a round, you'll be very surprised.

In comps this year I was 52 over for the front nine and 8 over for the back nine. Back nine is considered harder.
Play the front nine all year long when having a quick 9 holes but just can't master it.

I tend to play better on the front nine at mine. It's more placement oriented. The back nine is more driver as only 2 of the holes don't require it. That said my last few rounds I've faired better on the back! Today being the best with 22 points!

We rotate our 9 hole courses so its hard to say better front or back but I can say I play better on one of the 9's, the Arndean, to the extent that on Captain's Day I was level at the turn but managed to then drop 7 shots on the Cowden which acted as the back 9 that day.
Well I say that, I actually dropped 7 in the last 6...

Just offering possibilities. Being honest mate and possibly just speaking for myself, when we travel far, like H4H, we like to get top 100 courses in, where possible.

I certainly wouldn't rule it out though.

Ive not looked but im certain my front 9 will be better. I usually always start solid and the front 9 is easier than the back.

I do have a habit of giving up sometimes on the back 9 as well and trying a few things that rarely come off :D

Well my course is neither "badly kept" or a "muni", but hey-ho....

Sorry mate, I didn't mean it like that, it came out wrong. The munis analogy, was not to compare it to yours, but more to say that on my golf journey I've played the worst and the best, and appreciate the very best a lot more now, even if at a top end price. If people were visiting the NW for a day or so, I would offer Lee park up, but I would say that we are only a 5-6/10 course, and would initially point them in the direction of the better courses, but if they would be willing for a knock, I would gladly have them here.

In discussion for H4H, we all said that if we are travelling that far, we want to play top end courses (top 100 or close), whilst there, which we achieved with Bearwood, Coombe, Beau desert. I would imagine the same in the future.

However, I would not rule out playing your course in future, as obviously your good company gives it an extra 2 out of 10, in my eyes.

Always better on the inward 9 at Newburgh. Probably because it is far easier, I'd say that there are 6 good birdie chances on the inward 9. 10-13-14-15-17 in windless conditions are all Driver-SW and 16 is a 7-iron par 3 added to that, the greens and the course in general is far flatter coming back. 11-12-18 are tough holes. Compared to the outward 9 where the holes aren't necessarily longer but there is something challenging about each one, be it a much tougher approach or a green with many undulations. I always think that if I can turn in 39 (we're 36-36) then I'm on for a good score.
