After a horror front nine 54 (+18) I kept my composure today, played each shot on merit and came back in 43 (+8) which included a missed four foot birdie AND a three putt from four feet. Ball striking is much better.

Finished with a 97 which was my first time sub 100 off the whites and a net 69 (including a 10 on the 5th which should come down to 9). So with an SSS of 70 I could be looking at 0.8 off. Not spectacular but if you'd offered me that at the half way point I'd have bitten your arm off.

Taking steps in the right direction, baby steps maybe, but at least they are forward and not back :D

How did evryone else fare on the season opener?

your putting sounds very similar to someone I know... ME lol

glad to see your seeing improvements. Golf has to be the most rewarding yet punishing sport ever devised :)

hit a few good shots then get a right smack in the mouth to put you back in your place....

Good play Tiger, congrats on holding it together after a poor start. I played poorly, 15 pts out and 11 pts back. The pro has had me strengthen my grip and I can't hit a bloody wood to save my life atmo. It will come tho, got another lesson on Friday.

Enjoy the journey, man! The game is a gift to be savoured and as you have found on this occasion, it has its ups and downs. My oppener this year was a bit patchy. I played like a man with two left arms, swung like a toilet door and putted like God. To top it all it was on the Ailsa course at Turnberry. Nice

Cheers guys. Pro V how was Turnberry that's one of the five courses I really want to play.

Jabba sorry to hear about your round. Hope it's just part of the improvement process and it cones good soon.

Baby steps is what it's all about Tiger, keep up the good work. Why do you say the 10 should come down to a 9?

Our season hasn't really ever ended but today was just a normal roll-up. 35pts for me with a blob on 16. It's the 4th week on the spin I've scored 34 or more points and if I'm honest I did it without playing all that well. My irons which are normally my strong point were pretty poor by my own standards, I was hitting them OK but I didn't hit anything close which was disappointing.

Still, things are looking good for the season.

Well played you that's good consistent shooting. The guys I play with think I'm going to come down a lot this year so I should save my best rounds for the major club comps and clean up the silverware ;)

As for the 10 I thought when they calculate handicap they adjust any big scores to net double bogey. It was on SI1 so I assumed they would round it down to a 9 for handicap.

Thanks PJ! :D how did you get on?

Well done mate, are you finally going to be off something lower than 28? :D :D :D ;)

A common misconception Tiger. The net double only counts when submitting cards for your initial h'cap. What you shoot in a medal is what you shoot.

Well done matey. Once the cuts start it is usually followed by another pretty quickly as belief begins to filter into your game. I played this morning but didn't really play too great as my mind is on other things away from golf. Still I did have chipping lesson and so at least I've something to work on. Hopefully like you I can take baby steps into getting back down

Ah I see. Thanks hawkeye.

James that means unless it blows a gale tomorrow and everyone has a nightmare I'll only be down to 27.6 so still of 28 for now at least!

Good shooting Tiger
It's playing to or at least around your handicap on a regular basis that builds the confidence to go on from there.

I expect 24 by the end of the season or I'm sending the Boys round!

And I thought scores do get rounded to nett doubles - not for the purpose of winning the Medal but for handicapping.
I've shot 3 over buffer before and not gone up .1 as I had 1 horrendous hole.....

Thanks Homer. To be fair I had a shocking start but this is the second time in two weeks I've cone back in 24 pts. Just need to get off on the right footing. Glad to hear you've had your chipping looked at hope it works out for you.

Thanks Ian. To be honest I'll probably beat myself up if I don't reach at least 24 by October. The opening six holes was shocking just 8 points and even after that I was taking too many putts too often. This was a big confidence booster and lots of comps are coming up!!
