Hi all
A quick question about stand bags.
I have a Callaway strike lite stand bag I bought about 18 months ago. About 6 months back the lining started to split at the front lip of the bag (where my putter lives) and today I noticed the padding on the bag by the straps has almost completed worn and starting to spilt.

Is it normal for this sort of where and tear to happen on a bag this age?
(I play all through the winter(permitting) and all summer using the same bag)

On average how long do peoples stand bags last?

Many thanks in advance.

They should last years

Id take it back to the shop you got it from and see what they can do

Failing that see if there is a Saddle / Tack shop for horse stuff near you, they may be good for repairs

I get around 2 years from mine, used practically every week being holidays and course closures.
They get hawked (lifted) about and abused more than trolley bags though so wear is bound to occur.

I would expect at least 2-3 years out of a stand bag and maybe more. Justgolfonline exchanged my brother's Cleveland stand bag when it started falling apart after a similar period of time.

I got 1 1/2 years out of my old hippo one before the stand took a mind of it's own, that was playing, on average, 2 to 3 times a week.

I didn't mind so much as it was only cheap, but if I was spending Callaway money, I'd expect a little longer.

I'd be happy if any bag lasted 18 months. They get chucked in and out of boots, hoofed round a golf course 100's of times a year. When you spread the cost over its life time, it doesn't look so bad.

Last year my buddy got a really lovely looking TM stand bad, R7 I think. We put it in the bin today. 1st thing it did was rubbed his wood shafts so much that they all have a groove in them, then the strap snapped followed by the linings coming out each time he pulled a club. That was not a well spent £120.

10+ Years ago I got an IZZO stand bag, I was told they were the people who invented the ruck sack style straps for bags. It was very cheep and looks as good today as it did back then.

I always look at Ogio bags. They only make bags so their reputation rests on the quality. With club manufacturer bags you have no idea who makes them or what the quality is like.

A lot depends on how you treat it.

I'm a bit of a tart when it comes to my gear I like to keep it all looking neat and tidy. Saying that, my stand bag does have a hole in it, on the side, close to the top where it had been rubbing on the top support of my trolley! :(
Apart from that, it's in good nick and it's about 2 years old.

If you rag it out of the car boot, bash it on the floor when you get to your ball, strain the legs on the stand, then it may not last too long I guess.

I replaced my PING Hoofer bag at the start of the season after 11 years of use, bag was still very tidy, only the ping zipper bits had snapped (zips still worked fine)

Now have the newer model Hoofer, here's to another 10+years of bag life.

Heavy use I would say a good bag does 2 years, cheapo does a season and a winter at most.

I risked keeping my cheapo on I had for a long time, hardly did any golf in 10 years (20 rounds max) but one summer of heavy use and I ruined the shaft of my woods as the lining wore out very quicky!

Wont do that again! Was a good excuse to go get custom fitted for a new shaft in each. As was the fact I snapped the 5 wood at the range :D

I guess it depends on how much you play and how well you look after it. I've had my Wilson back for coming up 3 years and it's in great shape.

My father-in-law however, plays more often and chucks his bags around a lot more - in the same time he's killed off 3 bags!

As others have said it depends how you use it and how you treat it. If you sometimes strap it to a trolley then it will get marked and worn and similarly if you a heavy handed about how you chuck it into the boot etc it will also get knocked up. I have had a lot of trouble with TM stand bags as have a lot of my friends at the club and so when my current one dies (won't be long now) I won't be getting another. I've had one which saw the legs come away and another which split inside.

I think with "normal" use 3-5 years wouldn't be unreasonable but I guess it comes down to the make, the user and the amount of work it has to get through

imo they should not be falling apart this quickly but because there is no way to monitor how bags are used, the manufacturers will always have a cop out if they want to use it.

unless you have continuously overloaded/abused the bag it has to be seen as poor workmanship/materials.

I think mid range and cheap stand bags for the 3 or 4 day a week golfer have to be seen as a bi-annual consumable.

If you are a weekend only golfer then maybe you should expect a little longer from it.

Personally comfort, good stand condition and good club protection are high priorities and so we should not mind investing in something fit for our purpose.

This is a very expensive game we play and I accept that (the wife may not but I tolerate her fancy coat and top addiction).
