Austin lodge closing

Any idea where the bar staff are going?

Decent enough track "up" there, though a bit out of the way, once you get past the first which is a little "uninspiring" (read still farmland)

No idea, Just had a email flyer (assume they got it from a society visit there)

£20 a round until it closes, but tbh I never really liked the place.

I've only played it once. Strange course. I liked some parts of it, it really feels like you're in the middle of nowhere at points. Other parts are just too quirky for me.

Also, they let us take buggies in the middle of winter when most other courses were closed due to waterlogging, crazy!

Is it just Austin lodge? It's owned by a company that own a couple of others too isn't it? Pentland?

Redlibbets is a big step up from Austin lodge in my opinion.

Haven't played redlibbets for 18 months or so, but I don't recall there being issues with the greens then, maybe things have changed.

I feel like we're spoilt for choice in kent, but maybe it's the same everywhere.

We have quite a lot of courses in Kent, especially in that Brands Hatch area but having played at West Hill this week and Blackmoor, North Hants and others in the Surrey/Hampshire border, I jut love the heathland courses so much. They are always dryer, the ball seems to sit up better and West Hill earlier this week was pretty much dry whereas my own course was only just open

It is part of Pentland who also our Boughton Nr Faversham, Etchinghill Nr Folkestone and the run Llydd too. These other courses have a much better area to catch people due to lack of courses in the area. In North Kent there is much more, better, choices.

The 2nd and 4th were always rubbish.
I was there for 10 years but got fed up with the broken promises about the greens.
When they dry out in the summer they're a lottery.
Shame the course has a lovely layout and some great holes, just not that well kept, IMO.

I played West Hill a couple of weeks ago having not played there for 6/7 months. They have spent the money they got from the developers in return for land fill on their practise ground (its now fantastic!) on the course. Even tho the subs are in the region of £2k its a bargain. I have never seen the course looking better, the presentation was immaculate!

West Hill was a stunning course on Tuesday even with all the rain

It was a pleasure to play there

That's interesting. I agree about the layout, it's very nice. I particularly remember enjoying the 3rd hole and I think it's the 13th and 14th? Par 3 with good views and then a par 5 with a raised green.

It's a corporate place rather than a members club isn't it? I think there must always be a danger of standards slipping with that type of place if the focus becomes too much about short term money making.

You're so right Phil, I just love it, perhaps even more than Sunningdale!

Would love to play it in the summer - shame about the bunkers i found in the front 9 as those two blobs cost me - chuffed to peanuts to play the back nine level gross

Until I played at H4H I never realised just how close it was to me. Would be seriously tempted to join. Same with North Hants going the in the opposite direction. If I could accumulate some cash I'd be at one or the other in a shot.
