I have no sympathy for golfers moaning about excessive spin taking them off a green. A, don't hit it with so much spin, B, hit it on the green in a location that allows for the spin. There is no shock that it happens, it happens every year.

I have not voted but have always said it is not a course I would want to play, even from members tees and with members green speeds.
A course designed and built for pros to play not amateurs.

It's wide open? From 6000-6500 yards with normal green speeds I can't see it being that difficult tbf.

Not saying it would be easy but no more difficult than some open courses.
No thick rough, the water should be easy to avoid. You go to courses in Spain and Portugal that are tough but still enjoyable

I havnt played it just guessing. I think I'd have a harder time at Sawgrass or le golf national than Augusta. I'd happily play any of them though!
The leaderboard should tell us the answer. A proper test of golf where the cream rises to the top.
I, too, know a fella who has played there - a guy who used to work as a fitter for Ping on Tour. He said much the same as others here - tee to green not ridiculously difficult, but crazy green complexes.

I know some people who have been - they all said the same things, yes it’s really much more hilly than it looks on tv, but they also said it’s absolutely wide open. Like teeing off on a driving range on a lot of holes

I have played Sawgrass and found it to be very difficult. FiL thought it was “ok” but thought it was tricked up too much. Personally I loved Sawgrass.

I’m not a huge fan of Augusta tbh and it wouldn’t be a bucket list for me
Where as Cypress Point and Pine Valley look stunning
I think anyone offered an opportunity to play Augusta would be there in a flash. I think its akin to St Andrews where there are some iconic holes. I would be happy to go and test it on behalf of the forum if someone at GM or here can arrange

Compared to all the Open rota links courses there is very little danger off the tee….there are some bunkers to avoid on 1, 5, obvs a few bunkers around the green on 7 in particular, and less so elsewhere, but there’s not a lot to think about, to cover or to lay up, off the tee compared to the Open courses (maybe US Open courses too - I don’t know them so well, and guess not many on here are too familiar either)
As for the greens…honestly it’s a touch over-familiar (to put it mildly) seeing the same Sunday pin positions every single year….given that it’s the final round that most people watch - or have access to watch.
I read that more than any course the greens are not ‘read’ but ‘remembered’…given that the shelves and slopes of the greens mean that players are used to balls gathering in the same spots all the time…take the 6th green for example.
Thus the more you play it the better you chances at having seen the same sort of puts before
I bet there is a definite link between it being the most familiar course to viewers, and its popularity as a major amongst the public…..to play I bet almost anyone on here would prefer to play an elite links or heathland over an elite parkland course

I'd love to play there, off the member or forward tees. Otherwise I feel it might be too frustrating. That said, I think I would do awful on those greens!

Two things non golfers ask me when they're trying to make conversation, how often I get a hole in one and have I ever played that one that's really green on tv.
