to be fair… I’ve been known to do that in the depths of winter. You can hit a two foot put off the green.

I 3 putted from 4 foot on Wednesday night as the pin was in a position you can get away with during winter but not now. Aimed over a cup outside and missed on the low side and ran 4 foot away. Missed on the high side on the comeback.Make them firm ,fast and bumpy like ours
Ours are quite sloping and when they make them to fast it’s just silly.

It’s been there for 130 yrs .That’s just poor design.
Sounds like it needs softened, or that pin position not used. It’s been there for 130 yrs .
The greens were not designed to be as quick as modern machines can get them.
Yes we’ve started resetting some greens but it’s going to take years.Sounds like it needs softened, or that pin position not used.
I absolutely love it as a course. Doubles and birdies all over the place.
If I was there for 4 days I'd spend the first one watching Langer go round in a couple over. Unbelievable.
To be fair, I'm sure many 4 or 5 handicappers have really struggled on standard club courses. After all, most rounds they submit will be worse than handicap, just like us all.I know some of the media guys that have played it and play off 4 or 5 and they really struggled. Absolutely different test and the elevation changes make club selection so hard
It is measured. See post #222 on the Masters thread. To be fair, I'm sure many 4 or 5 handicappers have really struggled on standard club courses. After all, most rounds they submit will be worse than handicap, just like us all.
Added to that, I bet CR is a lot higher than par for the back tees (although I believe it isn't measured). So, a 4 or 5 handicapper could actually have a decent day shooting in the 80's, so an average to poor day probably feels horrific
Very true but playing on the Monday in the media lottery the greens are apparently are nothing anyone has ever seen before or since. I do think I'd be happy to play irrespective of how many I shoot. You'll likely only get one goTo be fair, I'm sure many 4 or 5 handicappers have really struggled on standard club courses. Does it involve the rolling of a beach ball? If not, I'm not watching itI found this video best in highlighting the greens challenge.
This was my thoughts when Garcia spun 2 back into the water on 12 a few years back. He put it beyond the pin too.For me, it is a bit of a farce in places. A ball that almost stops at the hole but rolls off by a huge distance is just not fair to golfers.
