A simple question
At what HC do you consider someone to be good at golf ?
Question for those setting a really high bar (hcp <5) for 'good'... What is a 6-10 handicap, if not good?
'Decent'Question for those setting a really high bar (hcp <5) for 'good'... What is a 6-10 handicap, if not good?
I'm in the 0-5 group and I class myself as decent. I'd also class the 5-10 group as decent as well as there isn't a great deal of difference between me and someone in the 5-10 group, I'm just slightly more consistent, my misses are slightly better most of the time.Question for those setting a really high bar (hcp <5) for 'good'... Nope, track your game for a while using something that does benchmarking to handicap groups and you will find that your game off the tee and approaches are the biggest difference by a considerable margin. If I look at my Shot Scope data for all of 2025 (and my putting became much better around July when I got a new putter) it highlights this. You might be an exception for a low handicapper, I play with a guy who sounds like you, hates his driver and has a mini driver instead. He still knocks that out to 250 though.Come play a round with me and my driving can disprove this theory for you
Short game is where it’s at for the lower handicap as that’s where scores are saved and made on bad days and that’s the main difference across the mid to low handicap areas. Then when you add in a good driving day the real low scores come and keep the handicap low.

You write except. Here are my benchmarks compared to scratch, 10 and 20 for the year. I understand these handicap benchmarks are against other Shot Scope users but other systems like Arccos give the exact same thing.

I've used the watch (V3) and the handheld (H4) and I've liked both of them, never really had an issue with them, except for my fat wrists snapping the circuits inside the watch strap. Currently still using the H4, I have it in my pocket and just tap the club against it before I hit.You write except. All I see is I’m exceptional. I’ll take that as compliment even though it wasn’t one
I don’t track my stats using an all like that I really should. But I can promise you I’m telling the truth about how crap my driving is trust me I wish it wasn’t. It’s why I am putting so much effort into getting the correctly fitted club and making changes to my swing. If I were to hit driver every Par 4 & 5 in a round I can also it guarantee I may be lucky to find 1 fairway.
Hopefully the changes I’m making and when the new bats arrive it’ll come together. My driving genuinely is the one thing that stops me going lower. That’s why I’m adding the Mini driver to the Arsenal as getting that out at 240-250yds even near a fairway will save me so much pain and shots across rounds.
How do you find shotscope and which set up do you have as stat tracking this something I wasn’t to add in this year. But not a fan of the Arcoss costs involved.
Absolutely not, in terms of losing meaning. Whether you can play to that on other courses is a separate issue but your handicap is your handicap.Does a handicap number lose any meaning if you play the same course week after week? I'm an 18 but does that hold up on other courses ?
Technically the answer is no but in reality the answer is maybe. The course ratings are supposed to eliminate handicaps that 'travel' well or badly as they did in the old system. But some of the course ratings seem woefully wrong, so there is still a potential for saying your handicap would be different if you were a member elsewhere. My own course for example has very low ratings, and I believe I could be a lower handicap if I were at a course with higher ratings that isn't in fact any more difficult than mine.Does a handicap number lose any meaning if you play the same course week after week? Mine does. I know I don’t travel well with my handicapDoes a handicap number lose any meaning if you play the same course week after week? I'm an 18 but does that hold up on other courses ?
