Excuse my ignorance Michael but I had no idea what an artisan golf club was before I read your article. I had seen and heard the term Artisan Golf Club but I never ever bothered my backside to find out what it meant or what it stood for in golfing terms. I assumed wrongly that it was a "works" golf club derived from the meaning of the word artisan. As in a group of golfers affiliated to a local industry or company that had a society membership at a local golf club.

I didn't realise the termination was from the members working at and for the club in return for reduced golf fees.

Thanks for a very interesting read, I for one enjoyed it and even at a ripe old age of 35, the term "every day is a school day" still applies!

I know a few artisan golfers, mainly from Royal Wimbledon and Sunningdale Ladies and it's usually a good way of getting onto a course for a negligible fee as most are allowed to sign x numbers of guests in per year.

I like the artisan philosophy but I'm too selfish truth be told to give so much of my time up to do the work required.
