Looking for some advice. Our opponents in the Volvo Pairs matchplay are being a little difficult, first of all they could do any weekday preferably in the morning, not ideal as we both work. Now they have changed their tune and have given us just 3 dates they can manage over the next 5 weeks. 3!!! None of which Davey or I can do. Do you think the organisers would see this as being difficult and award the match to us?

Ah the joys of arranging pairs matches lol. If I were in your shoes I would personally find the dates that you 2 can do and counter offer those dates to your opponents

PS The web site says equal effort should be made and both pairs DQd if not played unless it can be shown that one pair were to blame...or words to that effect.

So them providing some dates would probably show enough effort?? Not sure...

I'd agree about going back with dates you can make - 3 of them.

We have given them some dates and coincided with their midweek demands despite the fact Davey works in London and I am self employed and don't like to take time off when there is ££ to be made! They just seem to ignore the fact that we have other things going on in our lives, seems as though it's their dates or no dates.

The 2 we're playing are being difficult as well.

Seems to be a common theme this year as we've never had any issues at all in the past!

Homer mailed our Oppo's on Saturday with a list of dates but hadn't heard anything when I saw him yesterday. Hopefully things won't be too tricky

It's really frustrating me and I know Davey, who seems to be the co-ordinator of it all, is getting a bit hacked off with them.

Our last attempt is to switch the match to their place (which I really don't want to do as I hate it) and try for the 17th which we can't do at our place as it HAS to be in the morning, and we have a shotgun start going on that morning.

I don't understand why folk don't email to at least acknowledge the contact with an "I'll get back to you"

Maybe I'm just old fashioned

Remember all this aggro during the match and win - always works for me and the reason I love matchplay.

Ours gave us 2 weekend dates.........me and Murph can play ANY evening after around 5pm...they dont want to do evenings as one works until 5;30 ( have thy never heard of time off??)....also they said it's a long way to go.......22 miles....not exactly the other side of the world!

I've had to incur the wrath of the wife to make the one date out of the 2 weekend dates that they gave us.........

Why on earth do people enter comps when they cant find the time to play in them?

have given us just 3 dates they can manage over the next 5 weeks.

If that was in writing (e-mail), forward it to your comp sec and let him see what they are up to

Seems the games have started already. Some people think they're one up if they can be difficult and make you inconvenience yourself by playing at a time that suits them better than you.
