Are swing thoughts counterproductive or just good practice?

Maybe it's best to concentrate on a couple of succinct concise thoughts. That will allow you think about what matters and block out the rest.

It will stop too many creeping in and flooding your mind.

Good advice mate, defo need to mentally chill on the course😃

Update:

Went out today but before doing so found a vid on Youtube about iron-striking faults and their common causes.
The faults described matched my own problems. Inconsistent contact and the odd shank or two.

The fault diagnosed was coming in too steep and also in front of the intended swing plane. Advice was to think of an aircraft landing steadily and on a controlled even descent. And now here's the thing. I hit all my irons today like a king compared to recent form. Better and noticeably longer iron by iron.

I'm hesitant to say it's fixed me permanently but it's certainly worked today and has given me hope and encouragement moving ahead from here,

Glad the irons are improving. The range is where you work on the technical issues and the course is where you trust that work. I had a lesson on Wednesday and changed takeaway and starting to try and cure 30 years of swinging too far and lifting. Played yesterday and Thursday. Totally shocking but sticking with it. Range work tomorrow and next week and then trusting myself at the weekend. Keep at it and hope you carry on smoking them irons
