Are driver shafts too long?

I agree although almost every decent club fitter will not give an amateur a driver longer than 44" That's why the average length on tour is around this length as they need to hit fairways and Tiger woods in his prime commented that he used 44" as he loses control on longer playing length.
I just took advice from someone who knows what they are talking about and hit 11 out of 12 fairways today, have you even tried a shorter driver over at least 6-7 rounds, maybe you might improve your Fairways hit.

Why would I try a shorter driver when I can hit the one I have straight?

You hit 4 out of five fairways in your last three rounds? was the other one straight in the rough!
Unfortunately it doesn't work for everyone, I took advice from a master cub builder/fitter and glad I did, some people know better than almost every experienced club fitter or pro on tour?

4 out of 5 is better than most tour players most weeks, Id bite yer arm off for it lol

I'm not claiming to know better than anyone, I'm just disagreeing with your statement that no amateur should have a driver longer than 44" and I'm backing it up with some quite persuasive stats.

I agree with it but its not my statement, it comes from probably one of the best club fitters/designers/builder in the world and is backed up by the majority of pros who average around 44-44.5" driver length.
A few of my pp have changed after seeing how it improved my driving and every one has seen improvements, One who is 5'9" had his cut from 46" to 43" and loves it. The problem is I believe from experience is that it takes a few rounds to adjust and see real benefits, choking down an inch or do does help but its not the same as a proper shortened driver with correct swingweight and also some people don't want to risk cutting it down in fear that it wont work but almost certainly will.
