Apps for phoning from Abroad for nowt?

Got an email from a company called Vonage saying that if I download their App then I can call and text someone whom has the same App on their phone for nothing from abroad.

Great stuff but it appears it's only available for Yanks and not us,unless I am misunderstanding the bumf I have read????

Question is does anyone know of such an App I could use from abroad so I can call/text from my Mobile when abroad to folk back home in the UK??

For texting and sending pictures use WhatsApp

Uses internet to send so will need to be connected to your hotels broadband to use it and anyone you wishing to text obviously has to have it as well.

I use it almost everyday for texting my son in Australia when we not Skyping

Have heard of an app called Viber which apparently lets you call for free as well but havent used it so cant comment whether it is any good or is indeed free.....

Yes, Viber does that but the other person has to have it as well. As of a few weeks ago when my son installed it only text messages worked for Blackberry. Works fully on Apple, but not sure about Android.

I have viber on my android, as long as the people you want to phone/text also have the app its free over your internet connection no matter what type of phone they use.

Calls can be made wherever you are as long as you have Wi-Fi or 3G connectivity (though if you're roaming, you would want to stick to Wi-Fi). As long as you both have the app, the call will be free. If either of you is using 3G then data rates may apply.
