Apostrophes- must they always be used correctly?

I think apostrophes will have disappeared within 5-10 years. They are less and less relevant to this generation where texting and short form writing is more dominant. Frankly, apart from older pedants most people really don't care where the apostrophe goes. Yes, I do try to use them correctly myself but I accept they are becoming less relevant to every day life. Accept it dinosaurs, change is coming.

I tend to disagree - however I admit to often hitting the ; on the keyboard when I mean to type ' and in casual use I usually don;t bother correcting myself (see - I just did it there by mistake) because my intent to separate the n and the t in don't is clear.

One of my colleagues has dyslexia very badly, and emails from him are legendary. However, apart from the the odd conversation with him about what does he really mean when he says something unintelligible in an email, no one pokes fun at him. He is very sensitive to any criticism about what he writes. I apply the same rules on here, i.e. I never criticise someone's grammer on here just in case they have similar problems.

If its unitelligible, I just move onto another topic.

I doubt the apostrophe will ever die out in the same way as other things like semi colon etc. won't Grammar has been here for centuries before and will be here for centuries to come

I use the semi-colon a lot; it is a very useful little piece of punctuation (though I've probably not used it correctly just there). Don't use the colon unless I'm typing a list as in: this; that, and the other
