Hi,

I have had my AP2 714 for about 6 months now and i am a high handicapper and I am just not getting on with these clubs, would you think an easier to hit iron would be best for my game?

I feel that i miss hit the ball and it drops a lot of distance and the shafts a TT x100

Rewind 12 months and this was me. Exactly the same issue. Sounds like you don't have the minerals for those shafts.

I got them with s300's. Never had the minerals to hit them and got rid quite quickly.

Think a lot will be down to the shaft. I was fitted for mine by titleist at Kings Acre, I've got them in xp95 s300, my mate had the 712 in DG s300 and I couldn't hit his.

OP, according to your game golf, you hit your driver 206 yards and your 7 iron 131.

X100 shafts are utterly wrong for you, and probably 2 shaft flexes out. You can't get good flight with shafts like those no matter what head is on them. Go to a range with demo irons and try something with R300 flex shafts the equivalent, ideally in a lighter version and see how they compare.

AP2 heads are good heads suitable for a wide range of players from pros to mid handicappers.

Hi,

Others have dealt with the shafts,so I won't comment on that.

in terms of the heads there was a guy getting custom fit for them with the pro at my club. When hit them well they were great but the pro reckoned he wasn't the most consistent ball striker and was losing around 30yds on his off centre hits.

There's a lot of guys at the club who've bought taylormade rsi 1 irons (including a 4hcapper who had ap2s that he felt didn't offer him enough forgiveness on off days) and they all seem to love the rsi1 irons.

I also played recently with guys off 9 and 5 who had titleist ap1s (714) and they really liked them.

You're ap2 heads will be great when you're swinging well, but you might not get the most out of them on your off days.

I tried the rs1 and can honestly say I don't thing there is a more driving iron out there.

Imagine the wife catching you in bed with her best mate and congratulating you and supporting your actions.... Yup that forgiving. Scary long too!

cheers for the advice, could be a costly mistake getting these irons :(

I have seen the new xr os irons and looking for something that will give more confidence behind the ball, and i need something that will be more forgiving.

when the ap2 are out the middle they are amazing but when they are not i might as well throw the ball

You'll be surprised how much more distance you find having the right shaft. I simply couldn't load the kbs stiff despite the fitting saying they were a match. My 7i dropped around 25 yards even though the strike was awesome, back to a shaft that suits me and I'm back up to where I was.

Shafts are the engine to power...

Don't think there is anything wrong with the head in terms of forgiveness. I used all of the head during my testing last year with GM/Titleist at Silvermere and if my wonky swing can get decent results I'm sure with a shaft far more suited you'd have the same. Might be worth getting a quote on getting them reshafted and trying something that suits more before doing anything and seeing if that's a cheaper option than a new set completely

In regards to the shafts, what would people recommend, i think it will be around the same price if got new shafts or clubs and I could sell these and put the cash towards the new ones

You could sell the clubs at say £300, replace with the correct spec for pretty much the same and see little or no cost, if not buying correct shafts and having them fitted could be £100-125 inc shafts if you buy used, but you need to find a shaft that's right for you first.

Long story short, I also bought a lovely set that wernt suited. Im not sure if it was shafts or not forgiving enough heads, main thing was I wasnt good enough for them.

I needed a change, I wanted srixons, but also fancied mizuno jpx850 cast. Unfortunately, as with the first set I didnt hit the srixons well enough. So the mizunos got the nod, a little to my disappointment.

Ive only played 2 rounds with them, but honestly couldnt be happier. first real test tomorrow. Fingers crossed!!

So in answer, give the mizunos a hit, im sure youd have more sucess.

Bet youre glad I gave you the short version. Haha  good luck if you go looking for some new bats
