Anyone use a 7 Wood ?

guy at my club has all woods apart from 8,9, pw and i mean woods not hybrids. he even has a 9 wood hits them all well and came down from 18 to 10 last year

Tried one, really liked it. Bought a hybrid instead, wish I had gone with the wood but at the time it was the right club due to the windy course I played at.

More people should use 7 woods instead of long irons and low loft hybrids. Me among them!

I have Bridgestone J33 with a graphite shaft. The club was made to spec and dare I say it is awesome. The last time I used it, I was just hitting it miles. It produces a high floaty flight, so great down wind or calm days. I think the loft is 6 iron or 5 iron. But distance is 3 iron to 2 iron with more height IMO ...

7 wood loft seems to be 21 degrees in the main, which is the same as my 3 iron - even TM would struggle making a 6 iron with 21 degrees loft!!!!!

Not exactly a 7 wood, but I use a 21° hybrid.
Much easier than using a long iron, makes the game easier, almost seems like dumbing down! 🎅

That's the route I went, wood was easier to hit but the hybrid suited my game and the course better.

That was then, now I wish I had got the wood as it would have suited the courses round here better

I pop one in the bag sometimes, particularly in the summer when a bit of height is required to stop the longer shots on the greens.

Using it a bit less since acquiring g10 21 and 24 hybrids, which I'm a bit more reliable with and can use more flexibly.

I would certainly encourage beginners to start with a 7 as their first fairway wood before moving up to a 5.

Used one for years now, current model is the TM Aeroburner...and love it. I use it on a few shots that need to be made at around 170-180. It is my "go to club" if I need to get out of trouble or avoid trouble!

I've always carried an old Callaway 7 wood but have struggled with distance with 3 and 5 woods especially off the turf and I've never got to grips with hybrids. Being a bit of a Titleist whore, I arranged a fitting at the National Fitting centre at Kingsacre. Up 'till then I was using a seventeen degree 910f but lacked consistency. I tried several shaft/loft combinations of the 715f and the results were quite surprising. It turned out that I do not develop much spin with my fairway woods therefore the ball was not flying high enough so the ball was landing short but would roll a fair distance on hard fairways. Looking at the results of the fitting however, it transpired that the furthest I was hitting the ball was with a 21 degree 91f with a Mit Diam M+Red 60 Stiff shaft giving me a carry of 190-200 yards off the turf as opposed to 170-180 with a 16.5 degree head. This is effectively a 7 wood so don't just assume that the lower the loft, the further you will hit the ball.

I also bought an 816h1 hybrid, with 25 degrees loft and a 1/2" longer shaft to replace my 4 iron, as the results showed that the carry distance of my 4 and 5 irons were almost the same, but the roll out of the 4 iron was the greater, The hybrid, which I love, gives a slightly higher flight, but softer landing with a carry of around 170/180 yards so the theory is I can now attack greens from further out!

Had a couple over the years, my last one was specific for a couple of long par 3's we had, it was excellent for a long but high ball flight so it could land more softly on the raised green, well that was the plan 😂🏌

must admit that i have never thought of a 7 wood ,i use a 5 wood and two hybrids ,one is 21degrees and the other 24 degrees, must say that i hit my five iron the same as the 24 . i have a mate that uses a 9 wood ,its his go to club for everything ,he hits it pretty good too.
might just have to try it one day as he gets good distance with it from heavy rough.

I have a srixon one I got ebay for a fiver. Love it, more off floor than tee as I tend to hook it off the tee. May try and upgrade it for a newer model.

Just dont tell bluewolf who thinks im a bit of a girl...

Would a 7 wood be a possible alternative for a 4 hybrid? I currently have 5w, 4h, 5h, the 4h doesn't launch as high as the other two but gets more runout. Can be a problem on my home course in the summer months.
