Currently have "navfree" on my nexus but its way too inflexible and starting to drive me crazy.

Want one that shows the route and then allows you to make adjustments or tell it to go via a place or specific road.

Dont mind paying for it if worthwhile.

What do others use?

Waze is good and free. You can register and once you have you can add live updates if you see any problems on your route

I use Navigate 6, by Route 66.
It's a paid app, but pretty cheap.

You store the maps (which are free) on your phone, so all navigation is off line which is really important if using abroad.
Unlike some apps which bundle various countries into one map package, this allows you to download one country (or US state) at a time so you are not using up all memory with unnecessary maps.
You can also use it for walking navigation in cities.
Loads of points of interest with links to relevant website and phone numbers etc,

I'll be moving to Android soon (from Nokia/WP8). Above seems pretty similar but has anyone else made this move and if so what other apps come close to Nokia "HERE" navigation apps? (I doubt if any are better).

I downloaded one last night called Navigator from the app store, it's free btw.
It got me from Belfast International to where I was working, and then to my hotel in Lurgan without a problem.
Now I need to find the hotel bar, don't need sat nav for that

No it works as designed, but google maps is better. Tomtom costs what £30 but Google is free and functions better In my opinion.

That means you use data while navigating with Google?
Navigate 6 works off line so uses no data.
I use mine in USA

Only for traffic information, not to navigate. GPS is not linked to 3G.
If you set your GPS going while you've got wifi and you don't deviate from the route it'll work without internet for the entire route, but whats the point in that.
In this day and age, I can't believe people still get Smart phones with limited 3G/4G access. I've had unlimited internet use for the last 5+ years.

I don't want to use data abroad. Having on board maps means you can deviate from your route
