Anyone playing with injuries..?

12 years of rugby from a young age has done in my right shoulder (tackling shoulder) and I have a nerve in my shoulder/neck that wanders around making that whole area a mess.

Add onto that a very low level of fitness as I have not worked it back up to any decent level after a virus 4 years ago which wiped me out (taking up golf stopped me going into depression after that).

Not doing too bad otherwise for late 20s, I trapped a nerve on my left hip area recently but it was gone in a few days and not come back.

I can get up and jump out of bed still in the morning (and not because my bladder cannot be trusted) so I am pretty happy.

Fitness used to be an obsession of mine, I got over that after my virus as it was going to take a lot to get me back to where I was and not being there affecting me mentally!

Usual back issues, mainly to do with poor rotation or locking between C5 to C7 and muscle cramps where they try to hold it all together, (not helped by falling out of the loft a couple of years ago), combined with dodgy knees from years of fencing (sport, not wood work). I used to get lots of physio, but have now given up, as every time I go I'm fine til I swing a golf club again.

Where do I start? After years of playing sport, and continuing to do so, the body is in dire need of replacement. Hurt my back at 17 after a bad fall skating. This is a recurring injury, hurts mostly when I walk anything more than 20 minutes, but playing golf and swinging helps keep it mobile. Knees are worn, left cruciate torn twice - once from football, once from baseball. Neck is constantly being put back in place by my chiro, probably more to do with hunching over a computer terminal daily for 30 years....

But the two injuries that are affecting me most at the moment my shoulders and right elbow. I've done Aikido for the last 23 years, and currently train 3 or 4 times a week, plus play golf 3 or 4 times a week (during the summer). I'm not giving the body any recovery time. I'm fast approaching 50 and probably should rest up a little on the odd day.... perhaps the winter nights will allow a bit of respite. The left shoulder started as tendonitis (rotator cuff) but earlier this year changed to the bones in the joint. It appears I have developed some arthritis in there from over use......... The left shoulder is not good, have restricted movement and can't plift anything much past shoulder height. Also have golfers elbow in the right arm which can be damn painful on the downswing, or when someone grabs it hard during Aikido practice..

Does it affect me playing? Not really, my shoulder is a bit stiff for the first couple of holes, but that loosens up after a few swings. My swing is a bit limited on the follow through, but as long as I control that, I can swing fine for 18 holes. Did play 36 the other week, that was a bit tough but I think more to the heat than the body. The elbow can get very sore, but not enough to stop playing.

Am hoping the winter months will give me a bit of recovery time......... but if I can play or practice I will. Short answer is yes, am playing with injuries....

What a load of crocks for sure. Just a damaged right pinky finger which can hurt like stink as it's my interlocking one and torn rotator cuff on left shoulder - osteopath working on that later today!

No problems. Play anywhere between 2 and 4 times a week, can still walk 36 in a day (e.g. Cooden). Still play squash and racket ball.

But there again, I'm still young. Don't fancy getting old and becoming like some of you crocks on here.

:ears::ears:

Yup, stuffed index finger from flexor tendon infection, awaiting to have involuted toe nail hacked about tomorrow, has gone septic and hurts like crazy, knees ache, back aches, it's just being over 50 so pump in the drugs ;)

Torn tendons in my right elbow which has kept me out for 3 months. Not fully healed yet, but I'm sick of waiting so I've started playing again. I have to wear a large elbow brace constantly which is frustrating. It's very painful atm as I've just come off the course, but Ibuprofen, Paracetomol and Cider will take care of that later.

I also have a knee issue due to playing Rugby for 15 years. Right shoulder problems due to a Gent slicing a drive into my neck from 100 yards that almost destroyed the muscle in there 9-10 years ago. Arthritis in 3 fingers due to an accident at work that crushed and broke them 17 years ago. Other than that I'm fine. Plenty of people with worse, although I do think that God was trying to kill me for a while.

I have tennis/golfers elbow that I am unable to shake of, its odd as I can hit golf balls ok but simple things like pulling the headcover over my driver can hurt a fair bit!

Sweet lord!

Im like an elastic band compared to you lot

thats because you've not really tried hard enough yet!! The best injury I ever had was the 2nd time I had my nose broken. The first time made a bit of a mess of it, but the 2nd reset it perfectly. I was very grateful for the knee in the face.

No cruciate ligament in right knee, was repaired then snapped, repaired then snapped ,then removed ! so no ligament !
Slight groin strain and painfull strectched muscle left shoulder !! put me down now ! :(
but still manage 18 sat & sun
Come mondays at work is rest day !

I had a car accident about 5 years ago and my back has never been right since but just had to make small changes like a push trolley rather than carrying. My right wrist also clicks every time I move it from the same accident and I apparently have super tomatoes in my shoulder (Supraspinatus Tendonitis). I like to use it all as an excuse for being rubbish but I think that is unrelated. Bring on 25 and lets see how quick I deteriorate from there.
