As the title asks the question, anyone able to give any info?
The reason for asking is that a few of us have taken advantage(again)of another golf mags offer. Not only Dornoch but also Spey Valley and Brunston Castle.
We were thinking of going up,playing Spey first, going on to Inverness and staying there(nice hotel I'm sure)and then going on to Dornoch-where hopefully we may even be able to pay whatever the fee is for the Championship as well as playing The Sturie course which I'm led to believe is a really good course in it's own right!
The odyessy would I think involve 2 nights staying over:):)

Played them both. Dornoch is a special course and really should be on every golfer's wishlist. The Struie, whilst nowhere near the same standard is actually a very enjoyable course in it's own right, some nice holes out by the shoreline. You can get a combo ticket that allows you to play both courses either same day or on consecutive days.

If you have the chance to play them you shouldn't turn it down

Thanks for that d4s.Have now looked them up on webbythinggy and it can be £145/£75 depending on when you go,season wise!
Looks superb facilities and courses. Now all I've got to do is get everyone organised about dates/holidays/money etc.
Bring it on!!

Great offer from a very good mag, anyone else taking advantage of this??

Brunston Castle looked very poor last time I saw it.

They went bust again [three times now] and the members have now leased it with help from a wind farm grant, stuttering along with about 200 members.
Shame as it is a good Donald Steel lay out.

Long drive to Dornoch.

Doon...as said in the post we are going to try to play Spey Valley on the way up,then carry on to stay in Inverness for maybe 2 nights.
Doing the trip this way should make the journey much easier(and more enjoyable/less stressful/racing against time--and the speed cameras)
Did'nt know that about Brunston! We played there in Sept.and the course was in good nick..it helps if you can hit a long ball around that layout........the clubhouse was pretty empty for a Sunday but the food was good and well priced.

Played the Struie in August using the same deal and im doing the same this year really enjoyed the course and we're going to play the big course this time as well. You get well looked after up there as well.

Im planning on playing the struie in march as I have two vohchers from the scottish golf show , the only thing putting me off is the drive ... I can never hit it straight

Yeah, agree with Drive4show, it's a must play, some great holes can't remember the number of the hole 8th?? been 15yrs since played, but the par 3 alongside the gorse at far end is a cracker, and I thought the 14th was a brutal hole. Didn't play the other course as I was on holiday and only wanted to play Dornoch.

The Struie is a decent enough course - but obviously not a patch on the Championship (which is my favourite course in the UK). The combination ticket is good value. Play the Struie first.

played there again a couple of weeks ago. Its a nice enough course much easier than the Championship. They have done a not of work over the last year and taken a lot of gorse out and that has changed some of the holes to the point i didn't recognize the 8th when stood on the tee.

if you are up there play it esp if its free. I would look at Tain And Brora as well.

The Championship does do Twilight as someone else said, but ive a feeling that's not till later in the year.

Played Dornoch last year and I thought it was a fabulous course. Will definitely be going back. Have also played Spey Valley the last 3 years on the trot and I love it. A bit of a walk between some tees, but nothing too terrible. Fantastic scenery and some great holes. Can be slow, but just enjoy it.

Slow is right, played in a Society meet mid a few weeks ago more than 5 half hours :(

5 1/2 hours???That's certainly going to eat into drinking time in Inverness by the time we get there/book in/unpack etc.etc(although thinking about it since driving again next morning)maybe just a couple, after all we're not as young as we would like to be!!!
Met some other guys from our place tonight at Portman St.,who have also signed up.
Seems a popular deal/place going by the comments on here.
Thanks for the info...now really can't wait until later next year.
Oh,and the other good news is that SWMBO has just got me the 1/2 price subscription to our favourite mag.Been a good week all round for me !

Great offer yes, no longer a good mag IMO.

Machrihanish Dunes
Spey Valley
Roxburghe

Would have been my choices had I decided to subscribe.

Ha ha, very good big man. I don't over rate it, it's good but not IMO a top course. It wouldn't make my top 10, it might make top 20.

TBH Val, its so far away from anywhere, i could get to courses 100 times better in less time. I could be half way though a round at Western by the time you get to MD.
