I see an insurance company is offering a discount on insurance if you use one, plus I like the idea of recording any possible bump (been bump free for over 30 years but insurance only takes into account the last 9 years!)

so anyone got one in their car?

Seems most of Russia have them judging by the number of films of the Meteorite.......

THis is a pretty new thing isn't it? Can't be many out there yet...

People have been using cams for years. Whether its just for insurance purposes or to record their trackdays.

There are some really good cheap cams available on ebay.

You need to watch some of the Youtube videos of Russian motorists to realize why probably every single person there has a cam in their cars. Mind blowing stuff..............

apparently its compulsory in Russia and China for insurance companies- I did think it could be self incriminating though. Had a google but most are impractical or expensive, I can get a split new driver and a dozen Prov's for the cost of a decent one:eek:

The missus of one of the lads at work, works for a company providing black boxes and cameras for cars. So not only can you film your daily commute, it also records your speed, cornering G, braking and probably a multitude of other things. I imagine if you are a bit of a lad when driving you may not want one on the ground of self incrimination, but they do work the other way in that they can save you from large pay outs.

One lad I knew had a small bump, less than 10mph, no damage to either car, yet the family in the car bumped tried to claim compensation for whiplash etc... It went to court and when the evidence from the box recorder from the lads car was presented the case was thrown out, without it though it would have been his word against theres.

I think a lot of lorry companies use them as there's been loads of scams where a car overtakes the lorry and then brakes sharply. The lorry is then unable to stop in time and hits the car in front. There happens to be a car behind the lorry (that is in cahoots with the car in front of the lorry) which careers into the back of the lorry and then the occupants of said car (which happens to be full) all claim for whiplash, etc.
I think it'll be standard before too long as the Insurance Companies don't want to be conned.

They're far too busy conning us........

my mates son has one, fitted between the windscreen and rear view mirror,i think it was done by the co-op insurance and they gave him 10% discount from his insurance,by all accounts it is going to be mandatory in all new cars from 2016 or so my mate at fords recons
